The Song That Best Captures Prince's Essence and Message...

The Dance Electric extended... cloud9 Whether it is with Prince on vocals or Andre Cymone. What a wonderful sense of urgency and energy in this song as well as a great message... Every time I hear it, I have to get up and dance. Electric, indeed. That is the song that always captures Prince's essential message and sound for me; what is the song that does this for you?

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

"1999" and "Crystal Ball" hold somewhat similar messages and sense of urgency. He talked about death a lot, God, the end of the world, and making love. Even in "All My Dreams", he says "tonight we'll make love until the world stops turning".

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

All of these songs have similar meanings and speak to us with urgent music. It would be a great music mix if someone would compile all these type of songs...

I think that's probably the real definitive "message" song. It's very pointed, purposeful. The lyrics sum up a lot.

Pardon me 4 livin' but this is my world 2
I can't help if what's cool 2 us might be strange 2 U
Pardon me 4 breathin', can we borrow some of your air?
The problem with U and your kind is U don't know love is there

Lay down your funky weapon, come join us on the floor
Makin' love and music's the only things worth fighting 4
We are the New Power Generation - we wanna change the world
The only thing that's in our way is U, ooh
Your old fashioned music, your old ideas
We're sick and tired of U telling us what 2 do, ooh

Pardon me 4 thinkin' but there's something under my hair
I bet (maybe) U thought the lights were on but no one's livin' there
U think that if U tell enough lies they will see the truth
I hope they bury your old ideas the same time they bury U

Pardon us 4 caring, we didn't know it was against the rules (Shout it out)
If we only wanna love one another then tell me now, who's the fool? (Tell me, tell me)
No father, no mother, no sister, no brother, nobody can make me stop
So if U didn't come 2 party child, I think U better get up offa my block!

Wholeheartedly agree. Fell in love with it on first listen and said out loud "This song sums up everything we love about this dude."

I Wish U Heaven Full Version (Parts 1, 2 and 3)

but not just for the great spiritual message and purple lyric's of love, it also show's off his amazing talent of being versatile as it changes from a

Pop Ballad (part 1)

Doubts of our conviction follow where we go
And when the world's compassion ceases, still I know
4 your every touch I thank U so much
4 your every kiss I...
I wish U love........

If I see 11, U can say it's 7
Still I wish U heaven
I wish U love

I wish U heaven {x2}

La, la, la, la, la
Do, do, do, do, do
La, la, la, la, la
Do, do, do, do, do
La, la, la, la, la

I wish U heaven {x8}
(We wish U heaven)

to a Gospel song (Part 2)....

Excellent
This is excellent
Cool (Cool)
This is so cool (This is so cool)
Tell me who in this house know about sweet heaven (We do!)
Fishtail! I said, 'Really?' (Really)
If U know about love, say - 'Yeah' (Yeah!) (I wish U heaven {x2})
If U wanna go 2 heaven, say – 'Oh yeah' (Oh yeah!)
If anybody in the house wanna sing
Here's a chance 2 do your thing
Everybody, everybody get ready, y'all – sing!

Hold my hand, I'm strong with U
When U're quality band, I adore all of U
The way we love is what brought us 2gether
Dreams of above, the water's much wetter
When words of compassion ceases 2 exist
My band don't see me still get a kiss
The heavens above, the heavens above
Everybody sing 4 the heavens aboveto Funk

Heaven, yeah! (Heaven, yeah!)
Heaven, sugar baby! (Heaven, sugar baby!)
Heaven, oh yes! (Heaven, oh yes!)
Heaven, sugar baby! (Heaven, sugar baby!)

If we wanted 2, we could slam all comers, slam all comers
Sheila? (Yeah)
Have the choir hit a long note {x2}
(Heaven)
Yeah
Say hello 2 my little friend, the Blue Angel
(Oh my God, look at that guitar)
That's right

(La, la, la, la, la, la, la)
La, la, la, la, la, la (La, la, la, la, la, la)
La, la, la, la, la, la, la (La, la, la, la, la, la, la)
La, la, la, la, la (La, la, la, la, la)

On the 1 y'all
Heaven, yeah! (Heaven, yeah!)

and then into Funk (Part 3 )

I…
Take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine
I said take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine

Take my coffee, but don't U touch my cream
Make me holler, make me scream
Your sister ugly, that's the truth
She pees in the backyard, sleep on the roof
Take this beat, U know U need it
I give U a white dove, why'nt U feed it? (I wish U heaven {x2})
I gave U sweet love, U put it in the corner
Gave U candy, U say U don't want it
Take this beat, I don't mind (Lord)
I got plenty others and they so fine
Take this… take this beat

Teal-blue overcoat on my back
'67 T-Bird, heart attack
I got peace-sign sneakers, pleated slacks
Don't fuck with me, I'll slap yo' ass!

Take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine
Take this beat, I don't mind
I got plenty others and they so fine
They so fine {x2}
They so fine, so fine
I don't mind
(Oh Lord)

Gil..Gilbert, get the keys
U gonna have 2 drive, I can't (Oh Lord)
Let's get outta of here

I wish U heaven {repeat)
