BILLBOARD: PRINCE 4EVER BACK IN TOP 40 PRINCE 4EVER showing strong sales after Grammy Tribute and the recent streaming deals.
4EVER jumps up to #33 on the Billboard 200 Charts selling 16,000 units. Last week it was at #189. [Edited 2/23/17 15:34pm]
— Prince, 4Ever - No. 33 — Prince’s recent greatest-hits compilation gets a big boost, as expected, rising from No. 189 to a new peak, No. 33 (16,000 units; up 263 percent). Of its total unit sum for the week, 7,000 were in streaming equivalent albums -- a gain of 12,634 percent. Streams for the album’s songs grew tremendously after Prince’s Warner Bros. Records catalog of songs reached all streaming services on Feb. 12, after previously only being available through Tidal.
The 40-song 4Ever features one previously unreleased tune ("Moonbeam Levels"), along with 39 songs released between 1978 and 1993 during Prince’s time with Warner Bros. Records -- from “Soft and Wet” (his first charting single on the Billboard Hot 100) to “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Of Prince’s 30 top 40-charting hit songs on the Hot 100, 24 of them are represented on the 4Ever compilation. 4Ever initially peaked at No. 35 in its second week on the chart, back on the Dec. 17, 2016-dated list. This is what I meant when I said a hits compilation is a slow burner. It's not meant to sell huge copies out of the gate. But, over time..... it'll keep going up and up. |

Yea, this is deff selling a good amount, over 200,000 worldwide so far...
VERY BEST OF PRINCE sold over 900,000 since his death, and is the higest selling Prince compilation so far with over 2 million copies in the U.S. sold adding that addition 900,000 basically almost 3 mill in the U.S. alone.

Yes! The greatest hits compilations will sell constantly and they get a boost on xmas or if they talk about P on the media, televison etc... I think a Very Best of 1994-2016 will surely follow the next years... Or maybe two or three seperate Best-Of follow ups... Will not be easy to choose songs for a compilation...there`s too many good ones...

Would be for us, but for the general public... How many hits has he had in the 0(+> years?
Was TMBGITW and I Hate U that were hits, that's all.

How can it be determined that when people stream, for example the song "Purple Rain," that it's from 4Ever? Why doesn't the credit go to "VBOP" "Ultimate" "The Hits" or the soundtrack album?

Because you have options on which album you stream it from...

dont matter if they were "hits".....its BEST of not Greatiest hits....only way purple rain shmucks will listen to later releases

Was TMBGITW and I Hate U that were hits, that's all. A few people who lost track after TMBGITW might feel tempted to check it out. I don't know, but it's not necessarily the worst idea.
