The Cloud-esque Guitar In Studio A

home_ad_1.jpg

I noticed this photo on the PP website. The white guitar doesn't quite look like a regular cloud guitar. I can't tell if it's the bass or not. Prince bought a cloud bass for Andre to play back in 1979. (Sonny used it in the "My Name Is Prince" video, too.) I'm not firm that it's the guitar here, because even the head was different.

Joshua Dunham, who played bass with him around 2006-2010 (give or take) had an odd bass that he actually has a signature series of now. The guitar in the pic almost looks like a cross between the two (but I know it's not specifically that).

Thoughts?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

.
Is this the same guitar that Bruno played at the Grammy tribute?
Supposedly, that guitar came from PP but was one of the copies sold, not one of Prince's.
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I may be the one Bruno played. I seem to recall the one in the movie was just a prop but it was popular so they made a real one. I can not see if the frets in this one have dots or symbols. (the one bruno played had symbols the one in the movie IIRC had the dots (I do not know jack about guitars)

That's not the same guitar. The flourish on top is more pointed rather than fluid and flowy like the real one. The body is also rounder and fatter than the cloud guitar, or the one Bruno played. Bruno either played one of his, or (more likely) one of the replicas being sold.

The guitar in the pic is really distinct in comparison to any other cloud guitar.

SENNISS

It's probably a replica.

Prince has the originals, wherever he is.

Untrue. With the plethora of guitars Prince owned, over 30 easily, why would anyone put a replica in a case in the studio? It's illogical and untrue. Besides, that case has had that guitar in it for a while now. Years. It can be seen in articles from years ago. In fact, there used to be three guitars hanging in there, but in that pic there is only one.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

The guitar Bruno played was owned by a fan of P's (Greg Cox) and was a replica.

He gave the guitar to Bruno as a gift, and then Bruno sent him a guitar.

Yes. The guy that owned it posted on FB about the whole expereince. Indeed a replica sold back in the day. The cloud in this pic is certainly a very odd looking cloud. Fat body and snubbed off "ear" on the headstock. Strange....

You can tell from the short point on the headstock that it's a Schecter. Bruno Mars also played a Schecter replica. In fact, you can plainly make out the word Schecter on the headstock from the Bruno Mars performance.
