I Wanna Melt With U from "Ryde Dyvine" [is that prince's weirdest look ever?]

so, starting at 34:00 into this video:

is that a character? does he/she/it have a name? i mean, even for prince's standards
that's a pretty bizarre get up, no?

don't get me wrong, i love it biggrin only prince could pull this off though. can you imagine
any other big star from his era in something like this? eek

as corny as this is, i think the other one, with the phantom of the opera mask
and the 'gills for sleeves' suit is still more weird smile this looks positively pedestrian
in comparison lol

.
The mask was obviously inspired by Andrew Lloyd Webber's version of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which opened in London in the mid-1980s.

That one always makes me laugh.
Its like his hairdresser was halfway through something and he decided it was an interesting look.

It was inspired by Bjork, I think. In that time period he mentioned her several times in interviews, and she had a similar hairdo.

Ha, yes I always think of this Bjork look when I see Prince with his rave-esque multiple pick tails.

I think he looks so damn corny, but I kinda like this look on him. I feel he is just having fun.

Maybe I don't mind it as much cuz I love Bjork and have such an affinity for her and this look back then. Oh this song, Big time Sensuality! Love it. And PS - I saw Bjork play in Prince's L.A. Glam Slam club and she was so, so good! Prince was there watching her perform, he was probably trippin on all of us freakies in the club - good times...good show!

I forgot about that phantom of the opera outfit. Damn that was embarrassing. Reminds me that the true genius of Prince is that you have to take huge risks to get huge rewards. So among his greatest achievements, there are also some dismal failures. It's just the cost of genius. Purple & Gold, this outfit, Cybersingle...
