Academy Awards memoriam Feb 26th, 2017

.
The last of the "big" tributes will likely be this Sunday at the Oscars.
Prince was the biggest Oscar winner to have died since the last ceremony.
I expect he'll get the most-honored "stand-alone", which will have a clip of the man himself.

Who else could it be?
.

You were too fast for me.
My phone isn't compatible with this format so I can't change errors. I have to post then quickly edit.

I didn't think Gone With the Wind was THAT great.

I'm rooting for Hidden Figures to win Best Picture. It quietly teaches so much and has Janelle. I love that P knew all about the film.

It won't be anything big...they'll go through photos of a few other people then probably a quick sound-up of "Let's Go Crazy" or "Purple Rain" from the movie then onto the next photo. That's it. The end of the In Memorium segment will be Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. Applause, fade to black.

Gene Wilder, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds and Alan Rickman died in 2016. I wouldn't consider them bigger stars than Prince overall but in terms of the movie industry they are. The Golden Globes tribute to those who passed never made it on TV. Prince certainly would be part of any Oscars tribute but I doubt he'd get any special recognition.

Yes Hidden Figures is a great movie. And it was able to get its message across with humor and without being preachy. Every one of the actors was fantastic.

Don't be so sure.

Neither Reynolds nor Fisher were Academy Award winners.

What you're describing is the "segment". But there is always one "stand-alone" outside of that.

If P doesn't get THAT, he'll definitely get the opener or closer.

But none of them were Academy Award winners.

They may not even have been members of the Academy (Prince WAS a voting member as well as a winner).

I don't think it matters who won Oscars and who didn't for the In Memorium. Gene Wilder, Carrie Fisher, and Debbie Reynolds had a MUCH bigger impact on film than Prince. And the catergory he won his Oscar for hasn't existed since he won. Star Wars, Singin' In The Rain, and Willy Wonka are much more iconic films and are more important to cinema than Purple Rain. We're letting our fandom cloud our judgement here.

Prince received a nice shout-out. Aniston in her announcement mentioned him, the music accompanying the memoriam was Joni Mitchell, and Prince actually got a bit of a clip (and you heard him say "this is dedicated to my father")...one of the handful of people to receive a clip. It was touching.

Btw, Kimmel is doing a great job. Very cute night.

when I am wrong, I am very very wrong....
.
But at least P got a special, opening shout-out from Jennifer Anniston as she introduced the Memoriam.

but they at least gave him a bit of a clip and audio. Patty Duke didn't even get one (and she has won an acting oscar.)

It was a moving tribute. Glad we got to hear Prince's sexy voice in his clip; made me miss him all over again. sad

It was a very nice remembrance of Prince. At least it was a speaking part from Purple Rain.
