Prince commericialised, hate this. neutral

I think Prince would absolutely love the lip colors named after his songs.

--Maybe if the brand was Mac. Is this all the estate can come up with.

Do you know anything about makeup? Nars is a high end makeup brand. It isn't a drugstore makeup that you can pick up in Walmart or Target. Oh and in the makeup spectrum Mac is pretty basic, they have some a few decent products but isn't preferred. Nars is a big deal.
i think i want ya

It is rare for a song title to have a copyright. In some cases a very successful song title can be copyrighted under trademark law. Buy usually short words and phrases can not be copy righted, that's why there are multiple songs with the same name

Well "Purple Rain" is the definition of a very successful song.

It isn't about how sucessful a song is. You can't copyright two words (unless you made them up). Imagine the chaos that would cause. Everyone owns the language. Prince does not own the words Purple or Rain, nor does he own them when they are put together.

They applied for a trademark copyright on purple rain maybe 10 years ago, but abandoned the process without comment, so purple rain is not copyrighted.

Paris Hilton wanted to copyright 'That's hot.' I don't know if she succeeded or not.

Went to Nars this past weekend. I got the lipstick color Gett Off. Pussy Control was out of stock.

.

I told the woman I was looking for the lipstick named after the Prince songs. She said, that is their new Rock N Roll line, I told her NO, that is the Prince line, everyone of those are named after his songs. She just looked at me, like she was all confused. Maybe Nars need to tell their employees who Prince is. sad
