I've just had an idea inspired by a comment in the PR deluxe thread about moonbeam levels getting a music video to promote it; The only way I'd be happy about an album of tracks not recorded during a specific year/era is if it consisted of tracks that also had videos made that were scrapped.

If Warners were to have a Prince release schedule similar to David Bowie's then all Prince re-issues in multi-disc formats will be out next week. . Sometimes it can be too much - but I'm sure with Prince releases it will be like pulling teeth waiting! .

. As well as Bowie's been handling this, the reality is that the Bowie reissues are a mess as well, with some albums being re-released numerous times while others remain MIA. The recently started "multi-year" box set approach does look to be a bit more systematic, but there's still a scattershot approach to plenty of his re-issues. . It's infuriating how badly some artists handle this process. Paul McCartney for instance is about to release a deluxe edition of an album where much of the extra tracks (B-sides etc.) will be... download only! And the reasons given for that are just inane "oh Paul wanted there to be only three discs" (ignoring that at least one previous similar set had more discs), etc. Another artist vetoed the inclusion of some remixes released back in the day because he didn't like them -- what a great idea: inform your fans that they've wasted money back then on shite. © Bart Van Hemelen

. Where they had to replace half the discs because they all contained errors. But yeah, sometimes one wonders. . The idiocy is also that for smaller bands labels often agree to allow specialist labels to release special editions, which then results is sometimes great box sets. Of course they won't allow that for the big names, yet at the same time they don't release such packages for those artists. . Eurythmics had a bunch of decent special editions, but it was severely incomplete and for instance 1984 seems to be in some kind of legal purgatory (because soundtrack etc.). Pet Shop Boys did examplary work, though there were still some gaps and those don't seem to get filled. . I still find it baffling that both Michael Jackson and Madonna's back catalogue is so poorly treated. Surely the both of them would be massive money makers, instead we get an SE of Bad that includes a bunch of godawful modern remixes? © Bart Van Hemelen

His three top popular albums were 1999, Purple Rain, and then Diamonds and Pearls, right?
His critical darlings (that are not on that list) were Dirty Mind, and SOTT.
My personal fave is Black Album.
I wonder if there were sequences for more Hit n Run albums... remember the artwork that seemed to go back to different years? Maybe that was never a plan. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
