Prince not Invercargill man's father, negative DNA test revealsLester Cohen
Singer Prince is not the father of an Invercagill man whose mother submitted his DNA for testing. The DNA test for an Invercargill man whose mother claimed late musician Pri...his father has come back negative. A test conducted by the DNA Diagnostics Center in Ohio, USA, says there was a zero per cent possibility that Prince was the father of Max Stacey McCormack. The DNA samples were sent to the US at the end of December 2016, with the results coming back in early January. John Hawkins
Caren McCormack said the inquiry into the paternity of her son had been an "exhausting" process. The test was verified by the DDC's laboratory director, Michael Baird, who was formerly the court-appointed expert in the paternity case involving the daughter of Anna Nicole Smith in 2007. READ MORE: Caren McCormack had previously stated her 40-year-old son was fathered in 1976 by the American singer, and the singer had lived with her for a period of months in Christchurch when both were 17 years old. Invercargill. Born in 1976 in Christchurch, Stacey McCormack had been raised and lived most of his life in Invercargill. Stacey has suffered from problems with mental illness throughout his life, and was still living with and being looked after to a degree by his mother. Caren said her son had only met the man she believed to be his father once, when he was ten days old. Although she said she had not seen Prince since 1977, for several years he had remained in contact by mail when he was in the United States, she said. Caren said while she still stood by her claim, she would not be appealing the decision. "I don't think an appeal would be worth it, it's just going to be more costly. "It's cost me $5000 so far just for the lawyer's fees, not including the DNA test costs. "It's a bit deflating really, but we don't want to get in a fight about it. "Life is all right as it is, so we'll just let it drop." She said her son was coping well with the results. "Stacey is as good as gold – nothing really fazes him that much." While the test had stated otherwise, Caren maintained her side of the story was the truth. "I know it sounds like sour grapes, but nothing has changed in my mind. "You can't live with someone for five months without knowing something about them." She said while she admits there was the possibility it was a case of mistaken identity, the appearance and mannerisms of the man she met in 1976 still have her convinced. "I could have made a mistake and maybe I'm totally off base, but as far as I'm convinced it's still the truth. "It was never about money or publicity, it was about finding the truth. "If I have made a mistake and Stacey's father was still out there, I would want to make contact with him." - Stuff | |
