Speculation on "2 concert films" included on the PR reissue

Please don't make this part of that unwieldy sticky on new releases, Mods, please. smile

So Syracuse, NY is a given, right?

And I guess we're all assuming it's the First Ave gig where the basic bones of Purple Rain, Baby, I'm a Star and I Would Die 4 U were filmed and recorded. Wendy's 1st live set with the Revolution. It would be nice to see a near perfect video of that after all the versions over the years.

It would be cool if it wasn't the NY concert, but something not circulating. A lot of the Purple Rain tour was professionally filmed. It'd be cool to see Shiela E's opening set, if that was included.

Whatever it is, I am excited about it. Wish it was Prince himself working with WB to put it out, but that ain't how it is.

So First Ave and Syracuse, NY? Anybody got any other guesses?

Any other guess would be as random as putting all the shows in a box and picking one up. Common sense would mean those 2 but who knows? Thing is IDK how many of those shows were filmed with muti-angle, but it's likely there's been a few, notably the 2 where the 3 music videos were shot at least. Of note is Prince had hinted that PR Tour show would be on Lotusflow3r.com before deciding he'd take our money and run: I wonder what he had in mind if any specific show at all at the time.

IDK if it was multi-angled but obviously the 1984 Birthday show would be a MONSTER film to have. In any case setlists on PR shows were pretty much the same night after night, so it wouldn't make much sense to include 2 regular shows in the same package. Unless tapes have deteriorated to a point of unreleaseability, the August 83 show is the most obvious choice for the non-tour show, but who knows what other gems are in the vault.

I hope it is at least the full, perfect quality First Avenue 1983 show and if nothing else the NY syracuse show with loads of extras like the oroiginal broadcast version of When Doves Cry without the mirror effect.

The 1984 B'day show would be at the top of my list.

Honestly it could B the birthday gig: that would explain why the sound is so perfect (example with the Montreux 2013)!

First Ave 1983 and 1984 Birthday Show. Syracuse was already released so we don't need the official PR tour.

Don't be ridiculous: it's been out of print for about 25 years and, even worse, hasn't ever been released on any of the 3 formats still valid in 2017 (DVD, blu-ray and digital), of course "we" need it.

I think it'll be two main shows from the PR tour, one of which will be Syracuse. I'm guessing that the First Ave gigs would have been recorded on video cameras, not film (isn't there a big difference in quality between the two?), so maybe picture quality isn't what we'd hope it would be from the smaller gigs, and as a result aren't worth releasing without people being dissatisfied.

Like I said, I'm guessing.

Probably going to be something already out there like the 85 Syracuse concert but I would hope it's something totally new and unseen in full quality - fresh from the Vault!

Wrong era but separately i'd love to see the '86 Birthday Show getting the full remastered release treatment!

8/3/83 wasn't recorded with "perfect" quality. Even the master is overexposed and probably doesn't look that good and doubt they would release that, although I would love it, of course. I hope they choose a couple of live shows from the vault, even if not professionally recorded. Syracuse in better quality would be fine, ut not sure if that show, remastered to Blu-Ray, would be that much better quality than what we already have.

you know, i've never even seen it eek somehow i've always forgotten about it and then i just
figured i'd wait until PR was rereleased at some point because i was sure they'd do something
with that film as well. so now, probably, it'll be in the reissue and i'll have that to look forward
to as well!!

Why is everyone assuming the two live concerts would be Purple Rain-related?

The press release simply says there will be two previously unheard albums, and two live concert DVDs released. It does not say they are part of a boxed set or anything like that. They could be totally independent of the Purple Rain remaster.

that's what i thought too, for a little bit after reading the press release.

it's worded just so that it could be that.

but it would be rather weird for them to release PR remaster, with NO
extra PR content, yet release 2 albums of unreleased material on the
same day and even throw in 2 concert films unrelated to PR as well.

especially from a company that wanted prince to pace his releases and
spread them out more smile

so for now i'm 90% sure it's all purple rain related and packed together
in a big box with a purple bow on it lol

It's been said by WB that it's only going to be 2 discs; 1) remastered Purple Rain 2) Unreleased songs on the 2nd disc.

That's the first news release, the newest release said that they have 2 concerts and 2 albums worth. No where in that release does it state that it is part of the Purple Rain remaster package. It could be a special deluxe remaster Purple Rain set for 100 dollars(or more) or they could release things separate later. For all we know it's Roadhouse Garden as the 2nd album separate from the Purple Rain remaster?

That's not what it says. The press release clearly says they are releasing the "remaster of Prince's most iconic album, Purple Rain, along with two incredible albums of previously unheard Prince music and two complete concert films from the Paisley Park vault on June 9."

It could be DVD releases of the previous VHS Purple Rain and Lovesexy shows.

Equally, it could be the Parade broadcast, or one of the pro shot shows being shown at the park, like Diamonds & Pearls or Piano & a Microphone.
