Bruno does prince

Just viewed the Bruno Mars performance it seemed too early and like a talent show performance any thoughts?

Bruno's talented for sure and it wasn't a bad COVER and that's the problem. It was like a better than average cover band. I would've rather seen Bruno do Prince in Bruno style instead of just straight up copying him.

He SHUT IT DOWN!!! His tribute was EPIC!!! The suit, the moves, the guitar (obviously no comparison to Prince, but who is?), the vocals...it was INCREDIBLE!!!

If Bruno inspired one kid to listen to a Prince record...

which I believe he did, it was worth it.

I had fun with it.

Bruno knows he isn't Prince, but you could see that he really wanted to do his best to pay tribute. He put a lot of work into that.

All the post mortum award show tributes are done now, we can move on.

Ironically, The Time sang two songs not written by Prince and didn't include Jesse, the dude that wrote them.

That was my biggest issue. Not Bruno.

Bruno put his own Spin on the purple Prince suit. He had the purple stripe down the side of the pants...he looked SHARP!!!

Prince doesn't need Bruno to widen his audience fans that are parents, Spotify, universal and the fact that his life and death are everywhere secure future prince fans. A shame about Jesse though the time set seemed like a reunion rather than a tribute

The fine line between a tribute and an impersonation was crossed. Bruno did a good impersonation but a terrible tribute. Almost like a Vegas Elvis show.

Kudos to Bruno. That took some guts to get up there and do that. And I didnt know he could play guitar. He did a good job and Prince would appreciate him paying him so respect I think

Yeah, Bruno can play guitar. lol I saw him do it when he toured with Janelle Monae and Mayer Hawthorne.

True he is a master impersonator but unlike prince and other legends his image is non-existent. Prince flipped all of his influences and created something new. More people that actually worked with him would have been more appropriate.

Bruno did a well job. He did cross the impersonation line but it takes guts to get on stage and chanel Prince. My only problem is the cloud guitar? According to Dr.Funkenberry's tweets it is Prince's cloud from PP but the close up pics don't look the same as the cloud at PP to me.

Sure, it could have been a more emotional tribute, but it was still fun.

I should clarify. Bruno's impersonation and effort was good. The idea was bad. Very bad. Bruno is still good with me. Anyway, historic to see the Original 7 up there.

Holy shit!

Bruno Mars plays guitar?

Not a bad solo at all. I'm totally impressed!

No one can ever take Prince's place, but I'm going to pay more attention to that guy...for sure!

He even did the "Go,go go" like Prince had been doing in versions.

Damn!

If Jesse wasn't onstage the 7 was incomplete. Also us knowing how Prince was a young artist he actually worked with and acknowledged would have been more fitting.

He watched the concert footage just like the rest of us. And he copied the solo perfectly. Looked like a high school talent show.

It had the leopard strap. Which was cool but doesn't mean anything. I noticed it though.

Bruno did a good job. He's just not Prince.

I agree with those who said Bruno should have done more of a tribute and less of an impersonation. I'm sure he gave the Grammys everything they asked for, but he should have made it his own a bit more.

And why did he not perform with the Time?

It was an odd tribute, especially since they had so much time to prepare. IMHO, the BET awards did the best Prince tribute.

πŸ‘†πŸ»This. Odd too that he didn't perform with The Time. I wasn't crazy about their performance at all. It didn't seem like a tribute to Prince. I almost would have rather had Bruno do a medley and include maybe Baby I'm a Star or Housequake.

Seeing how Prince felt about the industry toward the end the Grammy tribute seemed half assed.
