You're one of the lucky ones. The younger generation (and probably future) have been normalized to think streaming surpasses other (IMHO better) mediums. Vinyl is great, but I grew up in the age of Vinyl. Tapes were great for their portability. Same with CD's. MP3's changed the game. Another 2 or 3 decades and the future will be laughing at the generations who relied on streaming as their medium of choice (mainly because everyone, will have a...MICROCHIP...N YO NECK...that's a reference from the Prince release "The War") [Edited 2/12/17 11:34am]

I have all of his stuff already. You need to see the bigger picture. Getting his music on streaming services is not for hardcore fans. It's to help make his music discoverable for new fans. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

You are renting music not owning it and the sound is shitty.

But the hoopla is not exactly saying "Oh yay! now the younger generation can hear him!" lol
Its more of regular fans and die hards all excited for themselves as if they dont already have the material
its akin to those chats or prince radio stations that when the "dj" plays the same shit we have on our music players and everyone goes "Oh Little Red Corvette..my favvvvvv"

Anyone complaining about streaming as a means of listening to music needs to get over themselves and let the younger generation do their thing. Sure, it's not the same as buying and owning your own copies of albums, but it's convenient and serves its purpose. Don't like it? Don't use streaming services, it's as simple as that.
Also, I can't help but feel like some of the people out there buzzkilling this move are the same people who were worried about Prince's legacy. Well, what do you want? For Prince's legacy to die when his fanbase does, or for a whole new generation of people to more easily discover his music and become fans? [Edited 2/12/17 12:12pm]

I guess this is good to spread his music to more people.
Why he didnt do it when he was here is weird to me though. I know money was an issue but now its not with the estate? They were able to work things out and he wasn't?
ah well..happy streaming all! availability is key , I get it.

JMO...I could be wrong here but think Prince wanted everyone to see him live and buy his music the way we always did vs streaming. Now he is no longer here and streaming seems to be the way to get his music out to all.

Streaming is bollocks - I just don't get it, but a massive amount of people do, and if they have an easier journey to discover his music then that is amazing! The more interest and plays he gets the better it bodes for future releases doesn't it? Either way - the more people that get the joy that we have had of his music the better even if streaming and renting don't make sense! Comin str8 outta Preston...

Should I be concerned that the album version of "1999" fades out before the song is fully over and doesn't transition into "Little Red Corvette"? When we finally do get our remastered version of the 1999 album, is this how it's going to be? Because that's not going to work for me.

I have all of his stuff already. Yeah isn't amazing! You're not everyone! People are different! What a concept! But let's educate a few people for a second. Most of us have his music. On vinyl on Cd, cassette, on floppy, on Zip drive, on a phone, on a computer, in the cloud. Whatever. The point being there will always be new ways for product to be delivered to consumer. I own all his stuff in probably all the listed methods above at one time or another. Not everybody has or does. And for those here that own all of his stuff and complain, kindly stfu. You are not further contributing his his estate or legacy. Even though I own all of his stuff in more than a few media, i do find Spotify/streaming adds value in my music loving exploration. And for every spin of his music in aggregate I still contribute to his estate that little bit more. For that convinoence I'm willing to give the Prince estate and Spotify a little of my money. If we all stayed in our basement listening to his stuff on an old Panasonic turntable with crinkled upturned nose, that's cool. And if you want to record it on a cassette and take it to the gym on your Walkman, that's cool too. It's all cool. Just stfu everyone with your bitching and moaning because you can't understand something. Please.
