As most know, Prince was a fan of The Cocteau Twins, so perhaps he just wanted to acknowledge them in some way. In any case, as a huge fan of both artists I'm quite pleased that there's at least some connection between the two of them, however vague!

He could have made a similar beat all on his own of course, but I think the sample works really well for this track and it's a nice little homage.

.

Prince would've sued your ass for such "a nice little homage".

And that Cocteau Twins sample consists of nothing more than a single, repeated note. ONE note.

Yet each note counts as one infringement.

the director of "the great gatsby" said in an interview that the song prince gave them
to be on the soundtrack was his version of "love thy will be done" but they could not
get it cleared because of that sample.

UGH! That's so crushing.

Prince's version is one of my all time favorites of unoffically-released boot stuff. I would have loved to have finally had this in perfect quality.

That beat is nothing special, and hardly sample-license-problems worthy. Frustrating.

[Edited 3/9/17 10:23am]

They played Prince's version of this song on The Current 2 months ago. Being that the radio station is in Minn. they play a lot of Prince. They are playing Moonbeam Leverls a lot too.

Huh? FOABP a "massive money making success"? What nonsense is this?

Well..I bought it on cassette. lol

For Purple Rain Deluxe Edition?? No, I don't think it should. I would put it on Roadhouse Garden. It was recorded post Purple Rain and in the mix of Around The World In A Day sessions. I think it would be interesting if it was on there.

Yeah it was definitely recorded post Purple Rain it's just that, to me anyway, it sounds so much more like that 1983 pre-purple rain - "1999 with guitars" - sound than the post-purple rain vibe. Like his last stab at the sound he'd been building on since 1980. Then again, I suppose you could arguably draw a line from it to Hot Thing and even Electric Chair though... hmm

Roadhouse Garden is a bit of a wildcard in regards what exactly is supposed to be on it, if anything, being that it was compiled around 1998. Is it just various outtakes that could have been on Dream Factory? Do those albums really need separate releases?

Assuming there's an actual RG from 1998/99 in the vault is IMHO unwise. There's very little to assume this existed as more than a vague idea in Prince's mind, and it's telling that he deflected blame of its non-appearance on W&L.

Agreed. I'm all for releasing the material but less interested in the late 90s album concept.

Anything to be said for filling the liner notes with information about how the songs were all really about Andy Allo?

I would look towards the now infamous April 21st as when we'll learn more info of the PR remaster DE. If we still don't learn anything new by then, it will warrent concern. Of course, just an guess.

Is it still to be 'PR'+'2 albums unreleased stuff' + 2 live albums?
That old 'insider' playlist was obviously fake - My 2 cents is on 'the original PR' album as is ('remastered' - but who needs that? I'm no fan of all those relastered albums of any artist, it just rapes the originals. The originals were as intended, why mess with them?) + 2 live albums/vids indeed (probably also nothing really new for die-hard fans) + ... what it's all about: 2 albums unreleased stuff.
I think those are gonna be a massive letdown for who'd expect to get 2 'new' albums of things unheard before.
I'd say one album is gonna be 'different versions' (incl. original longer versions cut for the album) - nothing we didn't know yet, and one album will probably be a scrape-together of outtakes and stuff what we also already know (think stuff like Neon Telephone, Wonderfull ass, ...), mixed together in what is far from a cohesive album and get 1 or 2 really uncirculating songs in the mix so that some people are actually gonna buy it.
This is what i think we're gonna get. I'm surely not looking forward, considering what 'they' already gave us.

In what way was it "obviously" fake? It looks pretty plausible. There's every chance that it was fake but I don't see how it's obviously so.

no record company would be ever foolish enough to release that playlist which had 'fan-made' all over it. On the other side it missed the original uncut versions of the songs??

Strange Tales from the Rain should give folks some idea of what we might get on one of the albums, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Prince and associated Artist collection/PR release.

This forum is full of people who know more about Prince than anyone else, and collecting as much unreleased material as they can get. Isn't it likely the extra tracks are going to be good quality versions of things you already have, plus one or two you might now know about?

Then again Prince was said to have a hand in this project, so it's possible one disc maybe remixes/rerecordings he's made a la 1999: The new master.

who needs 24 different mixes of the same song, especially if the differences are
only mono / stereo / 5.1 / new mix / 2012 mix / 2000 mix / 1988 mix / etc etc.

i know i wouldn't care for that one bit.

Huh? What are you talking about?
The Beatles release has the original mono mixes in addition to the stereo ones (and for a good reason, as the mono mixes are different), and some songs are also presented in 5.1.
.
Other than these, there are different TAKES (not mixes) of some songs. I surely would love to hear different takes of Prince songs.
