They're probably going to pretend he authorized all this before he died. They already lied and claimed that about 4Ever.

I don't care. I just want to buy it. lol

it can be a few things: it can be that prince lied about and deliberately downplayed the content
of the remastered, expaneded PR, for whatever reason. i don't think that likely.

.

Why? He's repeatedly lied about such things.

.

is it from the same source they got 'moonbeam levels' from? (i know they act like prince gave

them 4Ever, as such, but i have a hard time believing this, especially with regards to the song
selection on it and the inclusion of sexy m.f.

.

Or WBR simply played hardball and pointed out this was part of their deal and him not providing an outtake would be a significant breach that would prolong their distribution deal etc.

.

-the mastertape to which has been erased if we're
to believe ian boxill, or am i remembering this wrong too?)

.

Why don't Prince fans know anything about recording and mixing etc. and hold these naive ideas about it?

I can't help wondering whether the press release means we can expect 2 unreleased albums that are not PR-related, or just 2 albums' worth of PR-related bonus material.

I'm not sure if it's just because English is not my native language, but to me the fact WB used the word "albums" seems significant as is implies we'll get 2 albums that were put together by Prince in the 80's but remained unreleased.

If this is the case, then the obvious questions are: why aren't those released individually, on their own right? And what about the PR-related unreleased stuff like original, full versions and outtakes that simply cannot be left off of a PR Deluxe release? Will they come on yet another CD in the deluxe package, making it a 4CD+2DVD box?

If we'll only get the PR-related extras, then why didn't they just say there will be "2 albums' worth of bonuses"? They said "2 incredible albums" and to me that suggests 2 real albums, not simply 2 discs of outtakes.

Well I'd hate if anyone would be compiling (making up) albums before Prince's entire recorded legacy is catalogued, researched and curated.

There should be enough finished albums (completed by Prince) on the vault shelves, ready for release, to generate a healthy cashflow while the above work is carried out.

I just had a thought- maybe WB is nervous about releasing any type of 'new' music (stuff from The Vault) that no one has heard because Prince isn't here to help promote it anymore? Promotion is a huge factor in the success of any album- the band/artist needs to hit the talk show circuit in order to generate more interest. Prince can't do that anymore. Just a thought.

except prince promoted his later projects with minimal effort, if at all. he often did a single
performance on a late night talkshow or something in the US. that's hardly global promo.

if anything they can now do whatever they want in the way of promotion, without prince
saying 'i don't want that. but i'm not going to do an interview, tour, video or single either,
in fact, i'll do a performance and a video but it's already for the *next* album'

lol

you're right, i don't understand it. at least, it's confusing to me. if boxill says that prince had
people bring up certain tracks from the vault and erase them, is that the multitracks for the
tracks or the mastertape? and who has this 'mastertape' in their possession.

did prince have them all the time, in his vault, but was simply unable to do with them as he
wanted or have all the rights to them since warners had their rights/stake as well?

i find the story about erasing songs with swearing or too sexual content a bit strange anyway,
although we can't put it past prince, i guess. but there's erasing and then there's erasing.

he could have had someone dig the multi track to "sexy mf" from the vault and simply erase
the swearing from it, either whiping the vocal track or somehow editing it? you wouldn't have
to erase an entire song just to make changes that nobody could later undo, right?

but what would be the point of doing something like that if the cd's are out there with all the
swearing or sexual content anyway? so that rereleases or remasters curated from the original
multitracks would in future have to contain his 'new edits' or simply be missing parts?

but then, do warners of anybody else have nothing else but the same cd's that we have?

these are things i've wondered about a lot but i can't dig that info up. so perhaps you could
either explain a few things or point me in the right direction?

anyway, alvast bedankt smile

They will already be negotiating with former band members, engineers, etc to do the promotional duties - liner notes, interviews, etc. Team that up with rare in the studio pics to bring the era to life, etc.

The word "album" in regards to music has been misused as long as I can remember. Some people think "Album" only meant the vinyl record. Example: "Did you buy the new Prince on CD, cassette, or album?"

A photo album is a collection of pictures. A collection of songs is an album, regardless of which media format is used, even digital files could be considered an album.

So, technically, any collection of songs, regardless of which era they are from could be considered an album.

On the other hand, the way the press release says "two unreleased albums" could imply that these are "albums" that were sequenced by Prince as a group of songs from a single time period and that "go together" as much as any other Prince "album". "Roadhouse Garden" or "Dream Factory" would be albums in this sense. The hits compilation "4Ever" would not be an "album" in this sense, even though it is technically a "collection of songs".

So, to answer your question... it's not your English that is causing confusion, the press release is vague and could be interpreted in a few different ways.

Thanks but I'm pretty much aware of the many different meanings of the word 'album'.

My point was: if it's going to be 2 albums that are not closely related to Purple Rain, what are they doing in a Purple Rain box set? And will we get yet another disc full of the PR-related outtakes and extended versions? (As leaving these out would surely cause an outrage amongst us fans.) But then the press release should have mentioned that as well.

If it's going to be just 2 discs of PR-related stuff (and unfortunately that is most likely), referring to them as "2 incredible albums" is VERY misleading.

Who said PR-related stuff is not a must have? I wrote "leaving these out would surely cause an outrage amongst us fans" so I don't know what you mean.

What is misleading though is the press release saying the set will come with "2 incredible albums" (that implies "2 complete, unreleased albums from the 80's"), while most probably they only meant "2 albums worth of PR-related outtakes" (which is still exciting of course, but hardly unexpected if we're talking about a deluxe box set).

the Paisley Park events! That seems like a good time to announce what all the package will include. Oh and expect several variations at different price levels: From just the album to a full set with some kind of display case. (such as a box that looks like Paisley Park: which would be a little creepy as that is what his urn looks like) or with a recreation of the vault door.

I am thinking the price will range from about $15 to about $100.

I'm just praying for Warners not to mess this one up.

This release should really be grand, everything you'd expect after all these decades. It should be professionally curated, mastered, presented, marketed. It should contain ALL the known and unknown material that is in any way relevant to Purple Rain.

They better make sure they get this one right for us real fans and deliver all we can possibly expect both in terms of quality and quantity. No excuses will be accepted if they don't, and I sincerely hope they are well aware of that.

We've been waiting for this for too long.

That's what I believe as well. April would seem like the more likely month to market the upcoming PR remaster box set, scheduled for June. I'm also waiting for Game of Thrones season 7. A brother is waiting for an great many awesome things these days. lol

i doubt it will be a true remaster just a digital filter and some attempt to make it a little louder maybe a tweak to the EQ but I highly doubt they will do anything even close to the actual old school process.

They already did this with the Japan SHM cd's!!!

Yeah, that is almost a certainty. He performed it a few times recently so I am assuming he had revisited it. But as I have said, I do believe, it will be the same as the bootleg version that was an edit of the "wake up Wendy" "I say the first intercourse..." (both edited out) and with "yes I will" and "Mash-em."

In a few articles that I have read through, there have been statements made that WB owns some of the Vault material. No mention of what years or amount.

Perhaps, speculating, WB is now releasing material because of this. I am weary of the unreleased material spin WB is using. Prince4Ever only had 1 track. I worry WB will try to drag out releases in both time and quantity to maximize sales and revenue.

Maybe the PR re-issue will only have 1 or 2 unreleased tracks?

The ownership of the Vault material and contractual bindings have always interested me.

Now WB will have to work with the Estate. That can be a good/bad scenario. If WB owns a majority of the Vault, that is IF, I do not see a lot being released.

I hope the PR release will be better than the 4Ever release. That release seemed like The Hites/B-Sides re-release. For me, it seemed like a re-hash both musically and packaging wise. Just my 2 cents.

I am also weary due to the comments made by WB, and I am paraphrasing, that Prince tinkered off and on with the PR reissue and that Prince considered PR his masterpiece as is. I wonder how much input Prince put into this prior to his death.

It is cool that the Estate is doing the concert shows at PP after dark. Some of the material is being viewed. I wish that the Estate will try to expand the content to a wider market of purple army.

I was under the understanding that for many of the song Prince charged WB for the recording cost. And the 30 year rule (or is it 35?) if for published works. it would be longer if not published.

So if that is true then WB may own those masters.

Nonsense. If anything, there can be more promotion because a lot of the band members etc who were afraid to speak out in the past can now be free to collaborate with documentary makers and could be used to do exclusive interviews with magazines like Mojo or Rolling Stone etc., and Prince isn't around to sabotage anything.

I am thinking the price will range from about $15 to about $100.

.

Why the fuck would it be something that looks like PP? PP has got ZILCH to do with PR.

.

Also, why the fuck would WBR waste money on fancy packaging when the market for a regular box set is yet to be determined? You guys look at the most extreme releases on the market for wildly popular movie franchises and then assume that such a treatment will be given to an artist who has an abysmal record when it comes to archive releases?
