Bless him...Interesting that he says he was 'an outsider' at middle school...Prince and his music always seemed to have a way of drawing the waifs and strays, empowering people to be true to themselves...

I did feel as an outsider at school, too, but Prince wasn't that much on my radar (although I liked Musicology). I got to him through my love of TLC and Monie Love. After he passed away, I delved deeper into his music. Ten years ago, I think I wasn't mature enough to appreciate most of his catalogue. But I'll make sure my children, nieces and nephews will be exposed to his music ASAP <3

I can relate to this guy.

I became a fan in 2014 with AOA and started listening to his albums from Dirty Mind, to 1999, Sign O The Times... i felt like i discovered a whole new meaning about someing being an artist, doing so many different types of music, albums, songs, he was THE ARTIST, he cared about his art, he worked very hard behind every record, the concept, the visuals, the live concerts.

It only happened to me once before. I can't believe i bought all his studio albums imported (i'm from South America)... i bought Black Album, Come, Rainbow Children, every single one of them and i listened to all his discography for two years non-stop. Discovering 30 years of music, i felt like WHO DID I MISS THIS? and suddenly, he dies and there goes my dream of travel and go to a concert and meet him.

Sad.

I will always feel like i missed a lot of opportunities becoming a Prince fan so late.

I'm now a mature 31, but was 16 when my eyes (and ears) were opened to Prince in 2002. Because he wasn't popular at the time, especially not with most teenagers, it felt like I was in on this secret. I did try to share him with close friends, but they just could not "get" him. I'm glad that there are still fans that young who are being let in on this shared secret.

When you're in your teens, when you like an actor or musician, you like them with so much intensity. I think I would have been completely devestated if he had died when I was 17, 18, or 19. I remember waking up from nightmares that he had died around that time. I don't think I could have handled it, though I barely handled it this year really, even after years of time being a bit more "distant" from all things Prince. That sort of intensity you feel at that age, it really affects you and carries on. No matter how much I drifted away from Prince and what he was doing, I've always felt an affection for him and his music.

I am 23 and became a fan a few years back. Unfortunately my time of being a Prince fan only spans about 4 or 5 years now but it has been a very intense few years of really diving into his music. I bringed so hard on Prince's tunes - listening to every album, countless bootlegs, unreleased material, etc. As well as reading a few books here and there about him.

The day he died and for a few months after I remember being very shaken because I had such a deep and intense admiration and love for the grooves and melodies Prince gave us. His music makes me feel good and it makes me feel happy to be a music lover
