Curious Dream Factory tracklist changes on Princevault

So for 20 years every source, including Pvault, have told us DF3 was this:

Visions

Dream Factory

Train

The Ballad of Dorothy Parker

It

Strange Relationship

Starfish & Coffee

Interlude – Wendy

Slow Love

I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man

Sign 'O' the Times

Crystal Ball

A Place In Heaven

The Cross

Last Heart

Witness 4 the Prosecution

Movie Star

All My Dreams

.

And look what I found: Princevault has now changed the tracklist to this:

Visions

Nevaeh Ni Ecalp A

Dream Factory

Train

The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker

It

Strange Relationship

Slow Love

Starfish And Coffee

Interlude – Wendy

I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man

Sign O' The Times

Crystal Ball

A Place In Heaven

Last Heart

Witness 4 The Prosecution

Movie Star

The Cross

All My Dreams

.

Small changes I'll give you that, but changes nevertheless. Reminds me how they corrected the CB tracklist when the original CB tape finally leaked... only no DF tape has leaked! Did they put their hands on one?

.

I wish Pvault would have acknowledged the change and their sources for it. Unless a past associate revealed there were mistakes in the old tracklist in an interview or some handwritten tracklist has surfaced since P died and I've missed the thread discussing it? Anyone knows anything about this? eek

Clearly the new config replaces the old one, so no. Though I suspect it's not unthinkable that, say on Friday Prince would have ended CB with Beautiful Night and on Saturday would have finally decided to end it with Adore, and it could be the same here and that would explain the discrepencies between the original Uptown research and those new tracklists. But there's also the possibility of, say, Susan or Eric giving the tracklists to Uptown from memory and being mistaken in the order of one or 2 songs. Bottom line is Pvault doesn't acknowledge the old tracklist at all.

I totally agree!.

.

If a citation isn't given then the information becomes meaningless and only leads to confusion!

.

Bad Vault!

Well we know at least that if they've changed it they must have had a good reason to do so, and a reliable source of info. But still it'd be nice to know nod For one thing Wikipedia still has the old tracklist: a new fan who's compare both resources would easily be confused.

But DF was always a work in progress? It was never finalized the way Crystal Ball was.

didn't susannah say on facebook a while ago that she'd found the
original artwork the did for Dream Factory? perhaps that's where
this tracklist comes from? although she said back when she posted
that information, that she'd post the artwork soon and i haven't
seen anything yet. (could have missed it though. anyone?)

Maybe the leaked version wasn't the final but of some weeks before, who knows.

Anyway nothing of particular interest, it's only a matter of few changes in the tracklist, all songs seems the same.

Instead, I would be interested to listen to the other 2 configurations, according to the fact that also for these PV give details of songs differences from what later released.

There's no such thing as a leaked version. What we have is a fan reconstruction.

To my ears, it doesn't sound like a fan reconstruction but definitely as a mastering in-house cassette.
The sound quality is omogeneous for all the sequence and the flow is perfect.

Add also that before that DF leak, tunes like "Train", the DF "Dream Factory" version (with the reversed "A place in Heaven" intro) and the alternate ICNTTPOYM were not circulating, and the remaining outtakes were circulating in sub-standard quality (if I'm not wrong only "All My Dreams" was already available in pristine quality).

Another thing that makes me thinking so is that the Thunderball 2CD release include also on the second disc "It's A Wonderful Day" and "Teacher Teacher", not circulating before, in different quality (worst) from the entire DF.
If it is correct the "fan configuration" theory (all leaked together and someone reconstructed and remastered sound to obtain a self-made configuration of DF), so why not to include those 2 unreleased track instead of (to say) "Slow Love" and "It" that are exactly the same versions of "Sign Of The Time"?!?

Given all that circumstances, I'm strongly convinced what we have is a mastering in-house cassette of DF, like the "Crystal Ball" emerged 2 years ago.

I can hear differences between the SOTT tracks and the outtakes, and I believe it had been stated clearly here that it was fanmade. I know it was discussed at the time on Housquake unfortunately it can't be accessed anymore, but there are orgers who were there. I may be wrong and I am willing to accept that it's not fanmade but for that I'd need someone who knows it to confirm it (as opposed to someone who believes it).

I wish you hadn't brought up the argument about including other songs, though. It's absurd since the whole purpose of a reconstruction, if it is indeed one, was to reconstitute an existing configuration. Reading absurdities depresses me highly and makes me want to die sad

The tracklist matches another version of DF that is listed on discogs. It's listed as a remastered and unofficial release.

I'm beginning to think that I must have missed something along the way. It seems both tracklists have been know for a while.

According to the Vault book, which lists the Uptown version: "Other sequences of Dream Factory exist (assembled between the June 3rd and July 18th versions) with slightly different song sequences."
