say what? You know the difference between Prince, the musician, and Spike Lee, right? Two pics of Lee at (perhaps) a photography exhibit, a pic of Lee and a guitar, a pic of fake money and two pics of, um, dinner plates.

I always thought Purple Rain was big influence on Mo' Better Blues. Bleek was the Kidd. Clark was Apollonia. Shadow was Morris. Both movies revolve around a club. Bleek and the Kidd are talented, rising musicians suffering from personal issues with their parents. The Kidd was suffering from anger issues brought on by his abusive father who was a failed musician. Bleek also suffered from anger issues brought on by his deceased mother who was a failed jazz singer. Both characters also refused to help the careers of their girlfriends. There was also the banter in the band that mimiced the Time. The long corridor shots from the stage to the dressing rooms.

the tortured musician with parent issues is a common theme lol But for the longest I thought it was some reflection on the life of a jazz musician of course and read some behind the scenes stuff in connection with John Coltraine Originally, Mo’ Better Blues was entitled A Love Supreme. Why did you change the title? Alice Coltrane! [laughs] I was in contact with her. She read the script and thought there was too much profanity in the film, and she preferred that we not use that title, but she would still let us use the song. The recording was much more important than the title.
I think that movie Mariah Carey starred in 'Sparkle?' was inspired by Purple Rain to some bit too The things U mention are generally a common theme in 'the lifestyle' of musicians though. Good take Irn36

That is really interesting. I can see it. - I went to see Do the Right Thing the night it opened in NYC. It was a hot summer night, just like in the movie. The young black film makers (including Prince) making art was very exciting at the time. Brand new boogie without the hero.

I found this during a Google search that directs me to eBay for the image. Was it actually signed and auctioned? I have not idea, but I just love this image. .
