Did Prince like old musicals? Any indications? I was watching the musical "On the Town" today on TCM. in the movie, there is a "lady Cab Driver" (that's what they refer to her as a couple times). She is constantly coming on to Frank Sinatra's character and attempting to get him to come to her place. Anyhow, I know that in one of P's songs (Lolita), he references Frank and Ava (Sinatra and Gardner.) I wonder if P was watching On the Town when he wrote Lady Cab Driver...or just happened to get a female taxi driver that week (or both). Is watching Gene Kelley/Frank Sinatra musicals not cool enough for Prince or just right up his eccentric alley? Whatcha think?
Also, speaking of Gene Kelly. When people compare P to MJ when it comes to dancing, I always think of MJ as being like Fred Astaire (intricate steps etc) and P being like Gene Kelly (athletic moments and strong thighs and butt.)

He liked Graffiti Bridge. That's from 27 years ago. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

Jill Jones seemed to think he got the idea about Lady Cab Driver from her because she use to chauffer him around back when she first met him.

Watch the outtakes of Graffiti Bridge and you'd see direct influence of golden age big budget Hollywood musical but also filtered through Bollywood style moments such as in The Latest Fashion(Bollywood was directly inspired by old musicals as well and has kept going). OP - Don't get the comparison. For one thing, Fred Astaire, MJ and Prince were all ectomorphs (skinny). Gene Kelly the obvious exception. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!
