"Girl" Live @ North Sea Jazz Festival, July 2011

vist the Associate Artists form for:A Photographic Record ~ Prince and Andy Allo ~ 2011-2016

http://prince.org/msg/5/438626

One of Prince's (and Andy Allo's) Most Sensual Performances ::

Prince-North%20Sea-Girl%202011_zpsrkqf6jma.png

"We never played this before, but for you..."

This is how Prince introduced his jazzy 1985 sleeper, "Girl." After a few bars, he says, "Now watch. This is what happens in rehearsal." He then proceeds to walk the NPG ("Cassie," "Morris," etc.) through a brief practice session for a couple minutes.

Finally, P says, "Yeah! I love it! What y'all think?"

As the crowd roared with approval, he crooned the first words of the sexy ditty.

Girl
You excite me so
Ooh-ee baby, your body's like no other

.

Girl
It's you I gotta know (gotta know)
Ooh-ee baby, I bet you're quite a lover

.

Girl (ooh, girl)
I want to take you home
Ooh-ee baby you dreamy, I scream inside you

.

I want you in the worst way, you make me...

(At some point Andy Allo emerges from the shadows of the darkened stage. For her verses, "Girl" is changed to "Boy" and "I'm your man" is changed to "You're my man.")

Prince%20and%20Andy%20Allo-North%20Sea-Girl3_zpsicobxm2a.png

Boy
Won't you kiss me?
Ooh-ee baby, my lips they want you so

Boy

How can you resist me? (how can you resist me?)
The smell of animal lust is a-all over me (the smell of animal lust is a-all over me)

Oh, boy
If I could hold your hand
Oooo, I'd make you touch my body until you understand

You're my man
All night, all day (all night, all day)
I want you in the worst way

Prince, once again, takes over their shared microphone. "Break it down," he says to the band. He goes into the next verse.

Prince%20and%20Andy%20Allo-North%20Sea-In%20the%20Worst%20Way_zpsg7kf9sgp.png

(Girl) girl, you excite me so
Ooh-ee baby, my flesh is on fire (ooh-ee baby, my flesh is on fire)

(Girl) Girl
The way you play with it

[Andy interjects the next lines of the shared verse.]

Ooh-ee baby, I think you desire me (ooh-ee baby, I think you desire me)

Possibly [jokes Prince]

Girl
Make a wish, baby (make a wish, baby)

Anything (anything)
We'll make it come true (come true, come true)

Me and you (me and you)
I want you
In the worst way, you make me

Maceo!!

Now, THIS was a steamy duet. Note to Prince's estate: PLEASE RELEASE THE 2011 NORTH SEA JAZZ FESTIVAL SHOWS!!!!

I love the song "Girl" but 4 the love of Smurfs this isn't gonna turn into another "Andy was the love of his life, she was his last true g/f" thing again is it? If it does I'm leading a boycot.

Didnt know he ever did this live..or ever. Girl is an underrated song.

It took me aback back then because he was talking abut marriage in the lyric and I felt.."ah no, we cant have a married Prince, that would change things" lol

the long version is a beast

Yes!! He took out some of the steamier lyrics for this performance. Still, it's one sexy song.

What is it about that line of discussion that you find so troubling, ACharmed1? Would you prefer another thread psychoanalyzing Prince and his myriad alleged mental illnesses? That seems more appealing to some here on the org.

Prince said they had never done it, but Prince Vault says otherwise.

Girl made its first live appearance over 22 years after its initial release (and over 25 years after its initial recording), on 25 June 2007 (a.m.) (Show 1) at the Roosevelt Hotel, Blossom Room, in Hollywood, CA, USA. Read More...

Oh wow this was so great... A highlight in a performance when he already gave us so much good stuff... Just being there and hearing him say this: "We've never played this before..." And remember, NO ONE knew what was going to come... And then hearing this forgotten gem... Even Andy Allo sounded good and that's saying something... I chose my username for a reason and this is it... Surely one of the best concerts I ever saw... Although when it comes to "sensual performances"... When I Lay My Hands On U and Gingerbread Man were also pretty hot...

I cant speak for ACharmed1 but its probably that we are tired of the enquierer/tbloid crap that gets talked about so often, instead of focusing on the music of the genius of our time.

Lately itsbeen a sewing circle here and nobody seems to be embarrassed by it. I guess as long as there's trafic...

Nope. I'm just tired of hearing the Andy shit and the SPECULATION of said relationship he had with her. Others must 2 which is why 1 can only assume that thread was shut down.

BTW kudos 4 finding so much time 2 spend here on the org instead of booking gigs. See ya around Andy!

BTW: NorthC, you were blessed to be in the crowd that night. It was like he and Andy shared the most delicious secret EVER.

I saw it listed on the set list. There were lots of nods to Andy in the PAAM shows. I know some will beat me up for saying that, but it is what it is. BTW: I'm still having trouble processing the fact that Prince is actually no longer with us. It's just too much...

Was he no longer Jehovah Witness by 2011? I saw a 2011 vid of him dancing in front and behind Andy on stage. I hope he wasn't teasing that woman and leading her on all those years. I just recently found out she's still a baby. As in early 20s. I don't think he was having sex if he was calling himself a Jehovah's Witness. If he was indeed faithful to the religion then he didn't sleep with anyone after his divorce to Mani. Either way they put on nice performance on stage for the audience. I like Andy. She's such a beautiful soul and I love her voice! Isn't the NSJF floating around the inet? I've seen a few. The song Girl... Whoa.

Andy wasn't very popular with Prince fans back then. It had nothing to do with being his true love or not, it had to do with her not being able to play guitar or sing very well. But on this particular song, yeah, they hit it off perfectly. And yes, I'm blessed to have been there. It was a great night. The perfect climax to three North Sea Jazz concerts. (I also saw the first, but missed the second.)

yes It is HAWT!!!! I do believe that there is footage floating around these virtual streets!! But, you ain't hear it from me.

Yes, Andy was much younger than Prince, but I think she would have been foolish not to give it a shot with the Purple Yoda. I think they were clearly very much in love. And, I'm sorry, but NO man her age could bring out that "Girl" performance. Lastly, I don't think he was just teasing Miss Andy. At that stage in his life, Mr. Goodnight was probably so good that it was likely frightening. As I said earlier, girlfriend, hit the jackpot!!!! That's why so many seem to hate her with such ferocity, IMHO.

Andy has come a long way since Prince, knowing full well her limitations, plucked her from relative obscurity and took her on tour with him and the NPG. She had never played electric guitar before and had only been playing acoustic for about four years. Also, she has made it clear that she did not grow up listening to P's music. So, she had about three weeks of boot camp before going on stage with The Purple Yoda, a rock and roll GOD. All things considered, I think she held her own. That took a lot of guts.

doh! I knew it was gonna happen. And when P is referred 2 as "The Purple Yoda" and "Mr. Goodnight" all in 1 comment it's just gonna go downhill in a hand basket from here. I wonder how many TMZ writers R on the Org?
