Purple Music version question

Hi smile

.

We used to have:

Purple Music #1 (10:48)
Purple Music #2 (10:35)

.

I'm sorting out my files and can't find out whether the most recent, good sounding leak is #1 or #2, and given that it's slower the lenght is of no help. I wanna delete the old, useless file but don't know whether I must keep #1 or #2

.

Thx for ur help biggrin

I have so many questions like this. I'm intending to keep all the files (on external hard drives), but I'm also planning to keep a core set of copies permanently on my laptop.

So, yeah, which one is it?

^ I'm having such a headache sorting out those files. I've had to do this for years. I do a bit every once in a while. It's a hassle. I hope someone can tell us about Purple Music.

Co-sign. Seems like the more recent leaks of this track are so tinny that the "s"s are ear-piercing.

I fell in love with this track again when the KWEX Prince tribute show aired. A live version was blended with a decent sounding studio version.

I was just listening to this a little more closely than usual, and noticed a line about finding serpents to sacrifice. Odd. I still think this would have been a better choice for 1999 than All The Critics Love U In New York.

I don't think so because choosing ATCLUINY has a very strong meaningin terms of sending a message. He was saying something really true about where his career was standing at tha time, like I'm the tastemakers' darling, I may not have made it to the mainstream yet and you Rolling Stones fans rednecks may despise me, but I'm the hype and Andy Warhol raves about me.

It was super true and more imprtantly it was a super bold, super arrogant statement to make, typically the sort of thing that made Prince so unique and daring. PM is awesome too, don't get me wrong, but (admitting P ever considered having to choose between the 2 of 'em, which we don't know to be a fact), ATCLUINY was the best choice.

We've had threads about this in the past.At one time,I too felt that "Purple Music" should have been on 1999,but now I realize that I like the album just the way it is smile I think "All The Critics...." is a more interesting track.

Revolution81, when you say "recent" do you refer to some leak this year?

I've been "cleaning" my computer folders during the last 3 days and I've deleted 10 GB in Prince songs.

I guess every leak brings some better versions or clearer versions but I used to refuse to delete the old ones afraid of making mistakes. (for example with The Work when The work 2.0 appeared)

Now I need some organization and some space here for new DVD material, but it takes so much time... confused

I can honestly not tell them apart, but #1 sounds slightly better on 30 years and the Work 2.0, but #2 is better sounding on Testament and Princes Ivault and also the mix on Perfect unreleased Prince is likely mix 2with more mastering.

.

You need both because of these reasons.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yeah sorry, by "recent" i meant the one that leaked about 3 years ago or so. With regards to keeping different versions/sources, I tend to keep everything, in some cases multiple times. I know it's pointless, but I'm lazy and with how cheap external hard drives are these days if I run out of room I just go and buy another one

The "prince" title and the cover showing his face in the first plan, almost getting out of the frame, is to show how great he is. From now on, it will be impossible tO talk about music without him. He is about to explode.

.

Remember that FOR YOU was very disappointing, so Prince needed a big boost to impose himself.

.

Moreover, there was no satisfying title in the 9 tracks to give a kick-ass name for the album. Maybe "WITH YOU" after FOR YOU would have been funny?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I as I remember it the one on perfect unreleased isn't the one databank is possibly referring to. As I recall it there was a stand alone leak of PM, around the same time as the bftp2 stuff, that had a bit crisper sound but also terrible sibilance. It may (and probably did) have appeared on some later bftp release. But my memeory is hazy, I could be thinking of dance electric...
