Prince was very safe in his political commentary. I wouldnt call him revolutionary, but he wasnt completely silent either. He was more like a businessman safely discussing politics with customers.

I agree, somewhat. He was, however, a revolutionary in the music industry.

"Prince called out President Ronald Reagan’s foreign policies..."

shows poor knowledge of Prince or what was going on Spring 1981.

For one Prince liked Reagen and thought he was better than Carter. Given that Reagan did help bring about the end of the cold war Gorbachev did in fact tear (well he allowed) I think Prince would agree Ronnie did well.

Further, given that by the time the song was recorded Reagan had been in office just a few months and had hardly had time to implement much in the way of new policy: if he was calling out ANYONE's foreign policy it was Carter's.

PRINCE 101: PRince through his whole career was about spirituality and religion, even sex was infused with his spirituatl beliefs just like everything else

Jehovah's Witness,

in 1982 he sings:
Some people can't understand
Just bein' inside a church don't make a righteous man
U're high, so high
*fyi from an unrelease track called Purple Music
.
and in 2002 he is sitting in the JW Hall

Prince was so wise. He really "got it". That's why he seemed to know just how to express his views about society. If he were to take sides (politics) he wouldn't really be able to be effective in getting out his message of Love4OneAnother. I would attend your class. I was taught to keep a good healthy open mind

We know Prince was a JW later in life. How can we not? However this is STILL NOT a thread about RELIGION. It's about an article discussing his POLITCAL works. You are welcome to start a religion thread.

Well, the article was about Prince potentially being considered an "enduring political symbol".
As in any other thread, if there are folks who see the article as being inaccurate in some way, they will probably express that.
It happens all the time on the Org! 🙂🙂

Fine. We KNOW you do not believe Political and Religious can live within the same person. Is there another point? We got this one. Maybe some us want to actually talk about the article.

that is what we were trying to point out. like the author was just grabbing at what she could to prover her point.

If I'm not mistaken I remember a discussion on Prince & Reagan a few years back, that your post brought up.

To the Naysayer...told ya so.

PURPLE POLITICS

Though the high-heeled-stage-stomper was best known for his prolific songwriting and death-defying-showmanship, our reverence for him, more often than not, fails to consider a razor-sharp political edge. Sure the raunch was in full-effect and it may have been hard to hear him rail against Reagan through thigh-highs and a scant bikini bottom, but pay close attention to “Partyup” and you’ll hear a twenty-something raging against the military with defiant funk. He names names in “Ronnie Talk To Russia,” crosshairs religion in “Annie Christian,” dices gender politics in “Controversy” and delivers one of the most empowering ballads of a generation in “Free.”

That’s just pre-Purple Rain, Prince for ya. Down the line he’d offer a bleak diagnosis in “Sign O’ The Times” and transform an ode to The American Promise into an electrifying indictment (“America.”) And so, on this particular President’s Day, we hope you look to His Royal Badassness for the needed spark and perspective.

On Monday (President's Day), prince.org retweeted someone's fantastic list of "#politicalprince" songs.

The list includes "America", "Money Don't Matter Tonight ", "Dreamer", "Baltimore", "We March", "Dear Mr. Man", etc.

It's very cool that prince.org did that.

Yes, it's awesome that prince.org retweeted that list of political Prince songs.

In fact, some of the songs you highlighted earlier on this thread were included as examples of "#politicalprince" songs on the list retweeted by prince.org.
