Hey Orgers,

I've been working on a book about Prince's studio sessions for over 20 years (since I was a writerfor UPTOWN Magazine and a researcher Per Nilsen's DMSR & THE VAULT) and I just delivered the first volume to the publisher and will have release information soon, but I wanted to ask you all a favor.

We are trying to nail down the title for the book and I've put a poll up on the facebook group for the book.

The contents of the book cover everything he did in the studio from January 1, 1983 - December 31, 1984 as well as any information that would influence his work in the studio. The albums that were recorded during this era include: Purple Rain, ATWIAD, The Family, Sheila E's The Glamorous Life, Apollonia 6, The Time's Ice Cream Castle and countless outtakes and b-sides, as well as songs for Sheena Easton, The Bangles and Stevie Nicks.

The book also charts the creation of The Revolution, which was officially started once Wendy joined the group (according to others in the Revolution).

It looks like "Prince: The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions '83-'84" is your best bet Duane.

I went for the third option>>ID leave out the "THE" its superflous if you add The Purple Rain era

I really like this stripped down title :

"Prince - Studio Sessions: 1983-1984".

But of course, adding "Purple Rain era" in the title may be useful to draw the attention of casual fans.

Not all the buyers will be hardcore fans.

Totally agree with this - because it will allow for consistency of title with other editions.

I think it's wrong to have Purple Rain in the title as those sessions cover so much more.

It should just be : Prince Studio Sessions 81-83 _insert name of studio if one was used.

Then just have a bi-line that explains which albums and artists he recorded with.

.

Alternatively give it a name and a sub-title, such as, Purple Music : Prince Studio Sessions 81-83.
