Rave un2 - The Sun... and Wherever you go Hi all
In my eyes "The Sun, the Moon and Stars" and "Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do" are two of the most beautiful songs from the mid-nineties onwards
My questions to you: 1. How do you rate them? 2. What might be the reason these songs didn't obtain greater awareness/popularity?

sun moon and stars is unlistenable. Wherever u go has hit single all over it ....but not in 1999

For me, The Sun, The Moon and Stars is arguably the best 'contemporary'* track to appear in any Prince album post-Emancipation. *this little caveat removes most of The Vault and Crystal Ball from the running, as well as 20Ten's Future Soul Song, supposedly recorded over 10 years earlier. Wherever You Go is very good indeed. Arguably a better recording than a song, I'd still agree it is nowhere near as well known as it should be.

"The Sun, The Moon & Stars" is self-indulgent. It could be retooled, and be a much better song. It's not bad, but I'm like "Bruh, chill". Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Wherever is poignant/melancholy to me. It is a hidden gem in his repetoire that the general public are at a loss for not knowing about it. Dont know why he never used it in his live shows.

LOVE both of those tracks.
I don't understand the dislike for "Sun, Moon & Stars"On that note, I'm not big on "Man-O-War" but seems most fans are into that one. "Tangerine" is also amazing, expecially that additional instrumentals tacked on the end of it for the Rave Remix CD. That additional music at the end is very uplifting to me, ends way too quick.

Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do has always been a favorite of mine. It easily could have been played on the radio...

Easily... should have been released as a single and could have been a HUGE hit. That song is impeccable - vibe & lyrics... everything is on place.

Man-O-War is one hell of a song.I can't decide did i like original or remix more... underrated mid-90's/early 00's gem.

Those aren't my two favorite nuggets on the Rave album, but Wherever You Go is gorgeous. The Sun.. is another pretty song but it doesn't click with me quite as much. Perhaps it is a little too over the top lyrically. [Edited 1/28/17 19:36pm]

Wherever is one of my Fav. songs...they said that it was played very briefly once for a few lines at the Celebration 2002...P sang a little acoustic, and then the audience seemed to not really be feelin it that much at the moment, or they weren't singing along, so he switched to playing "Forever In My Life..."

I kinda like TSTMTS but his falsetto on the chorus is kinda annoying. WYG is unbearably cringe and is one of the most dated songs in his catalogue. Agree it is similar to waiting for you (don't like that song either). Strange but true and ILYBIDTYA are the only songs from the album i listen to regularly. His worst album, to me.

When he was playing Wherever U Go in the acoustic set at Xenophobia 2002, he jokingly started singing the 'Again' lyrics towards the end.
For me, the production on Lenny's song is better than on Wherever U Go.

Because he felt Lenny copped HIS song, which he did. He posted as musch on the website back then lol.

"wherever you go" sounds nothing like "right here waiting"...nothing...

Hi all
Hey, thanks for all your replies. (I had to translate some words... as I am not native English speaking... )
To summarize, most very much like "Wherever you go...". But not all. There's an issue whether it was taken from Richard Marx "Waiting for you". An indeed, when listening at Marx, there seems to be some similarity. "The sun..." is generally less appreciated.
For me, as I said before, I love the two songs. Also "The sun", his voice is so fragile and special. This make's it for me a rather non-core Prince song, but one of his experimental songs. Great! Both...

Surprised nobody's mentioned his 'Jamaican' rap on The Sun, The Moon & Stars

Yes. The way he sang it was very much to show that you could just sing the Lenny's lyrics over the top of his song.

Not really seeing the Right Here Waiting comparison.

probably not his intention but it's hilarious

it always reminds me of a cross between "forever in my life" and this one:
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
