Differences in already released tracks on HNR2 There were several songs from HitNRun Phase 2 that were already available when the album was released. I remember Prince tweeting that these songs were not exactly the same as the previously released versions. However, they are clearly very similar - and I can't seem to find a list of what those changes are.
Baltimore RockNRoll Love Affair Stare Xtraloveable Groovy Potential Screwdriver
Can anyone help? I'm particularly interested in Xtraloveable.

A version of Extraloveable (different to 82 original) was released in 2011 with an Andy Allo rap. In 2013 he released Extraloveable Reloaded with horns added and the Andy rap omitted - this is the version on Phase 2. . RNR Affair had some added horns on Phase 2. . There is 2 versions of Baltimore. The second had added orchestral section and horns - this was the one on Phase 2. . I'm pretty sure Stare, Groovy Potential and Screwdriver (although there was a Remix of this released) are the same as previous released.

I think the new arrangement of Baltimore is a huge improvememt. The interaction between the guitar and the strings is wonderful and it's a real shame that Prince didn't live long enough to take this further. He could have ended up with a Minneapolis-meets-Motown sound. Still, it's a case were the instrumentation and the arrangement are more interesting than the song iself. Same for Rock & Roll Love Affair: a mediocre song saved by good musicians and and arrangements. As for Extralovable, nothing beats the original. He isn't even singingabout hippies any more!

I played screwdriver to DEATH in 2013. I'm pretty sure would have noticed even the slightest difference. It's the same I didn't notice any difference on Stare and GP, but I wasn't as familiar with those. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I think the mastering on Extraloveable is a bit different then the previous horn version. The one on the CD is more natural in volume. The original online release sounds more compressed and louder.
Oddly I got used to the slightly louder version and prefer it! I think it's meant to be a loud song.
I'll never forget how crazy fun it looked to see the Welcome 2 America tour show in Chicago and see that entire horn line up at the back on a raised area... all playing and dancing in sync. So good. Prince put together energetic joy. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Thanks for the info!
I also thought Screwdriver sounded different (without any like-for-like comparison) but as it is probably my least favourite Prince track, I didn't spend much time checking that one.

RnR Love Affair also has a different girl during the speaking parts. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Just having a listen to the single extended mix, RNR 7, original radio broadbast and album versions and they all sound like the same Andy Allo vocals to me.

Well... They're not. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Can you elaborate? | |

I've just had a quick listen and also think it's Andy on all versions. Maybe a bit lower in the mix on Phase 2

Place the original version and the HnRII version into a DAW, line them up and invert one of them. Not only can you extract the horn overdubs, but there is a new voice. That's how I know. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I don't have the software to hand, but I'd be interested to know if anyone else supports your claims, and if there is any idea who the new vocal would be by.
It would seem strange, as the song ostensibly seems to be about Andy Allo, and the vocal is not noticeably different.

Don't 4get the added backing vocals on Extralovable. I believe I read that 3rdeyegirl did those.

IDK about the vocals (I'd have to check) but there are def additional horns on R&RLA A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

The original version just sounds so empty to me now without those horns. Much prefer the HnR version, although Remix 7 remains my favourite by far.

My ears have to agree with you over bluegangsta. It's the same "Hello" on the orginal extended mix from the 2012 single as on HnR2, and I can find no suggestion anywhere online that it isn't (apart from bluegangsta, who no one has agreed with) and no proposal for who the new vocal would be by.
Andy Allo on all versions unless new evidence can be presented (and I would be very interested to hear the DAW extracts).
