The 7 Video

The video shows 6 "Princes" dying in an elevator, ironically. There is the electric/thunder sound for the 7th death near the end of the video but it doesn't show the 7th Prince actually dying. Any interpretations on this?

Something i wondered..In the song Prince sings about 7 who stand in the way of love who will die/fall. I interpreted this to be outside forces. Then why is there 6 versions of himself dying?

Maybe the 7th surviving is him shedding his past.
Baby, you're a star.

I don't remember if I read it in a written article/interveiw with P or if P said it in a live TV interview, but he said that was to symbolize "killing off" former versions of himself in his career up until that point, when he changed his name to the symbol.

He was about to change his name. So, of course he's killing off "Prince". He chanted "Prince is dead" for years, more vehemently from about 93-96. I'm really surprised the purple rain look or the raspberry beret look wasn't in that tube.

7 is a number of completion and perfection, so he probably read into that and symbolized it in the video. However, his situation was far from perfect, because he wasn't 'free' until 2000 or 2001 from all contracts (the last one being publishing, I think).

As far as the lyrics, there are a lot of biblical references in it, characterized in his own lyrical stylistic way. The lyrics and the video, while sharing the number 7, are different stories; yet have a kinship in a very distant way.

Jevetta Steele asked him the significance of the song during the recording session, and he just smiled and walked off. (What a tosser. haha)

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He thought he was a cat in that era and cats have 9 lives, so he wanted to make sure he had 3 left. In some religions, 3 cats represents mists o red and blue. Red and blue make one hot color (purple). This was his sequel of sorts, in song, to Purple Rain, by subliminal means.

I always thought it was odd that he threw the symbol in the grave at the end of the 3 Chains of Gold movie

He also sings:

4 in the distance, 12 souls from now
U and me will still be here - we will still be here

Why 12?

You're stretching.... a lot. And the numerology is off, 4+1+2 = 7. BOOM.

I think the 7th Prince is meant to be a future and final Prince going to be one with the creator. This is why you dont see that one die but you do hear the same sound that was used for the other 6.

Before he passed, I liked the song but did not love it. I now love it.
