Lovesexy and SOTT re-mastered!

okay, so i did it myself. no sense waiting around for WB or NPG to do something. maybe you can do it too. here's how: if you have an audio CD recorder, record the original disk from an external source in analog. normally, when i record music from a CD i do it internally. i use the CD-R tray and it makes a direct digital copy.
but, if i record from an external source, like another CD player, the recording level can be adjusted to kick up the sound. i did it yesterday with lovesexy. not only does it sound much better, but i recorded each song separately, so i now have a tracked version of lovesexy!
next up is SOTT, which is in serious need of a major sound overhaul. here's the controversial part, though. i can do SOTT on a single CD if i use the edit of the title track from the hits or very best of...
the entire SOTT CD set runs about 3 seconds over the 80 minute limit, so using a single edit this song will shave off a good minute and a half, and allow you to put a much better sounding recording of this great album onto 1 CD.

You may have even better luck with "home remastering" if you rip aiff or wav files from the original CDs and then take the files into sound editing software like SoundEdit and amplify the tracks, then reduce the extra noise. While obviously not the same as actual "remastering," this method keeps the process digital.

Pochacco

There were rumors flying around a few years ago about Lovesexy being re-mastered in Dolby 5.1 Now that would be fantastic

Much love yes Pochacco

SOTT on CD, while digital, is a very low signal. The vinyl LP actually contains more information than the CD.

You just need this thing: http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/

Only downside is that it works solely with mp3s - not WAVs, but if you encode at 320kbps, it shouldn't really make a difference.

Camille I'm interested in getting a copy of this to see how it turned out. I would love to listen to the original 1987 Crystal Ball. I'll send you an org note.
