Completely Bizarre Idea for Under The Cherry Moon Sequel Okay, I was dreaming when I thought of this so sue me if it is stupid. I actually wasn't dreaming, it was 3:00 in the morning and I was thinking about what a missed opportunity Prince had in not making a sequel to Under the Cherry Moon. Sure the first movie was not a hit and was critically drubbed but a sequel to UTCM actually made more sense in theory than a sequel to Purple Rain. Here is my treatment (which I am going to copyright and will sell the the highest bidder) called "Over the Cherry Moon": It's 5 years after the first movie. Tricky has sold the aparment complex in Miami and is back hustling in France, once a giggilo always a giggilo. Mary has sunken into depression, giving most of her money back to her father and is spending a lot of time sitting sullen on a park bench, giving money to poor people and feeling like she will never find someone who made her feel like Christopher. Chrsitopher has been watching from the clouds for the last 5 years, it is a kind of limbo and he's about to go to the next destination, Uptown. Christopher asks an ominous voice (the Ladder?) if he can have a few days to make things right on Earth. He is given a week to straighten out Tricky and show Mary it's okay to love again. Christopher first appears to Tricky with multiple hilarious spit takes by Tricky; Tricky thinks it's a hallucination but finally Christopher convinces him he is a ghost or angel and Chris tell him why he is there. After Tricky gives Chris a platonic but still homoerotic flower petal bath, Tricky agrees to help Christopher communicate with Mary. ( Maybe Chris can only appear to one person at the time, I haven't got all the details worked out). Tricky meets Mary on a park bench and says that he has seen Chris and Chris misses her. She doesn't believe him but then Chris goes to her house and of course he climbs in the wrong window again. It's her parent's window and Chris sees the murderer Isaac sleeping with someone that is not Mary's mom. Mary's mom actually had an unfortunate "accident" a few years ago and Isaac is sleeping with the wife of the new Police Chief, who is the one person Isaac can't buy. Chris makes note of this and goes to Mary's room. She is sleeping so he sings her a soft lullaby and she smiles for the first time in a long time. He is gone when she is awake but Chris decides that part of his plan needs to be taking Isaac down. He slips a note to the Police Chief saying "Do U KNow Where U're Wife Was Last Night? Ask Isaac Sharon, I think he has her drawers right now." The Police Chief is enraged and pulls out a huge file he has had in his drawer on Isaac and begins to plan a raid. In the meantime, Christopher keeps visting Mary while she sleeps, singing to her, and on his last night he tells her how much he misses her and that it's time to move on. She wakes up and sees him and they kiss and have celestial sex. Post coitus they hear a ruckus downstairs and Mary looks out the window and sees several police cars there. They have come to arrest Isaac for several mysterious murders, drug dealing, embezzling, tax evasion, grand theft auto and illegal weapons. Isaac starts shooting and someone plugs him with a shotgun. He falls out the window and Mary is now rid of the person who was making her life miserable and very rich again. The next day, Christopher and Tricky and Mary are gathered in the park as Christopher is about to descend to Uptown. He says, "How about a kiss for the road", and Tricky jokingly puckers up. They kiss ("Kiss" playing in the background) and Mary asks what she should do now. He says, "You know what the world needs...music. Open a club. I have just the manager in mind," he says pointing to Tricky. She asks is she will ever love again and he says you never know, maybe love was just around the corner (you see it makes sense in this context). Prince descends to the Heavens and Mary cries but she wakes up the next day with closure and begins to construct a mega music club to end all clubs. Meanwhile Christopher is on his motorcycle headed to Uptown. He is excited but still wishes he had a little more time. He was taken so young and in his heart he finally feels like he knows how to love. A voice, reading his mind, says "I think I have an opportunity for you". The next scene shows a band at this small club, no one paying attention. The lead singer is talented but no one is giving him a break. He walks out of the club and out of nowhere a car comes and runs him down. Christopher is able to inhabit his body; the singer's time was up but Christopher was taken too soon and this is a way of setting it right. The voice says that Christopher is being given another chance but that his memory is gooing to be wiped clean (Yes I know this is ripping off Heaven Can Wait but that is okay). The singer gets up from being mowed down and feels like this is a sign that he needs to take some chances. He starts taking his music more seriously and a couple of months later he goes to a tryout at Tracy's Club, the hot new club owned by millionaire heiress Mary Sharon. He has written a new song for the tryout called "Around the Corner" and as is playing it Mary has a flashback of what Christopher said. She asks to talk to the singer and there is something in his eyes that draws her to him. The credits roll as they exit the club, talking and strolling. Okay, I realize that this was just a fever dream but if only...(waiting for inevitable tomatoes to be thrown at me now) [Edited 1/18/17 9:49am] All good things they say never last...

Yeah they said the same thing about "The Wizard of Oz" too. And "Howard the Duck". And "Hudson Hawk". But were they right? Okay, mostly. Did I mention the whole thing would be in color...and 3D! All good things they say never last...

Why you tellin us? Make it happen! Prince would want you to! (Ok, actually he'd probably sue you, but those are just details)

Kristin Scott Thomas won't answer my calls but Jerome seems interested.
Who am I kidding, this was a dream of a movie that in a parallel universe could have happened (if I would have written it in college and Prince knew me like that) but now...no Prince, no Christopher.
I wish Prince would have more opportunities to explore filmmaking. It was of course 18th on his priority list but there are elements in UTCM where you actually see an eye for making movies. And in my fever dream, I wanted to imagine some closure to the story. Isaac got off way too easy and the maybe maybe the love story between Christopher and Mary wasn't quite over. 4 all I know this may be the best piece ever posted on the Org... Still, I couldn't read it. So I'll never know. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I doubt it is the best piece ever posted, maybe Top 10% but not the best. And yes, I admit, after 4000 obscure posts on this site I still don't know how to write a long post without it looking like this. I would say that brilliance must be challenging, it must be hard to read so that one makes an effort to truly capture the magic of what is written. It's okay though, I'm already working on the third and final entry in the Cherry Moon trilogy and I will make every effort not to have it look like one giant block of mediocrity. I kinda love it. Okay, now I want you to come up with an idea that links Around th World in a Day to Cherry Moon. You can change the events in UTCM if you have to. I'm thinking there should be a scene of P and the band traveling to France on top of a magical train. They could even perform the title track on top of the train! Okay, ready? Set...GO!!
