Going to play devil's advocate for a sec, here...and then express some criticisms of MT.
1.) the article says "around 2000" (which 1998 could qualify as). She might have been vague purposely or unintentionally, but technically she did not lie.
2.) Mayte and Prince's relationship is a bit of a mystery at the end (and there are rumors of infidelity on her part as well) so having Manuela in his employ or even as a friend does not mean there was immediate infidelity on P and MT's part. Although it is certainly possibe and goes along with Prince's MO.
3.) Manuela wanting to get in with Prince--she certainly wouldn't be the only woman who ever found a way into his universe, nor was she the last. He is PRINCE for fuck's sake. tons of people are infatuated with him. Being a fan usually involves enjoying his talent and charisma (and not just his money.)
4.) We don't know the final settlement or if Dr. Funkenberry was correct when he stated that Manuela told him that she was hurt at the time so that's why she tried to hurt him in his pocket book.
5.) We don't know how often or if at any time she and P talked after the divorce. Silence is not admission of no contact.
6.) Charity fundraisers do do a lot of networking which can require expensive parties. 40,000 to 50,000 dollars a month worth of alimony is way too much to do so but I can understand why she would need the connections and money.
7.) Mayte is so dignified yet she is writing a book about Prince.
8.) Manuela could have defended herself in much worse ways than putting out a well calculated interview making her ex-husband look like a saint. She could have did a tell-all or said he was good with charity but 'cruel, manipulative' etc. as a husband. She could have made shit up or exagerrated his flaws. Yes, she threw some brief (and in some cases on the money) shade at him on facebook occassionally while he was live.. I don't agree with using that format, but I have heard and read much worse about ex's. People slagging on the ex-wife of a celebrity often leads to the ex-wife showing to the world the celebrity's dirty laundry in order to defend their own behavior. If she does not do so, then maybe we should ease up on her. If she does, then all bets are off. 9.) having make up artists on staff does not mean she knew how to do her own makeup. Plus, you know how Prince felt about how his associates should present themselves. You know he wanted her to live that glamorous life when she was with him. I agree that she is not entitled to that life when she leaves but how much he allowed her to spend while they were married is not really the issue.
10.) Wanting pictures and immigration papers back is understandable. (However, wanting videos he made for her and jewerly back 2 years after the divorce seemed greedy and exploitive)>
What pissed me off the most about this situation was that she came out at him in 2009 for 185,000 worth of crap he probably bought and made for her in the first place. What was the point of that? I imagine Prince thought she wanted to exploit his connection to her to hang on his coattails. And 2009 was a year when Prince's body was a bit of a wreck. I hope she saw that and expressed concern to him or others. INterestingly enough, I think a lot of people liked to come out at prince in harsh or aggressive ways just to get him to respond (even orgers seemed guilty of punitive whipping of a bad boy in order to get him to listen.). A kind of tough love. I am not saying that is what she was doing. But I have seen it before, kind of like when Lisa jokingly stated that she didn't mind irking prince in that Advocate interview and would take his calls happily if he called her. She said it with affection but I get what she was doing (kind of dragging him out of his shell.) If MT was attempting to do that, then good for her, but otherwise, that 2009 crap just seemed like an unnecessary dig.

Wowx2
About the Galphin house demolition, I was just thinking...I'm wondering if the demolition was also to oust people from his world without having to explain.
Example: Y'all all hanging with me at my house and I want that relationship to end so I announce that "I'm moving away for business reasons" and that "while I'm gone I'll be using that as an opportunity to have my house extensively remodelled and upgraded so y'all will need to find other accommodations" (heck, I might even offer to find them for you and help you move), then I have the house destroyed and stay away several years to emphasize that I won't be around to continue those former relationships.
Seems to me that it might've served this purpose, too...and without the hard feelings of the old Texas bar saying, "Y'all ain't gotta go home, but y'all gotta get up outta here!"

Did he and Mayte live in this house? If so maybe this is the house his son died in, where Mayte had the miscarriage and maybe even Mani had a miscarriage there. Prince tears the house down, runs away from the painful past, pretends it never happened. He doesn't deal with his pain, and starts self medicating to the point of addiction. He avoids emotional intimacy with Mani and she gets tired of all the sadness. Even in the IM he seems numb to their history together.

Don't know. I said it was certainly possible the two of them were up to something more than hanging out and her working for him. But we don't know. Relationships are complicated obviously. Plus, getting into P's inner circle doesn't automatically mean you are going to be able to 'steal' him away from his wife (unless P wants to be stolen.) She was cunning obviously, but anyone trying to get into Prince's inner circle had to be. Otherwise, how would you even get your foot in the door?
I don't mean to over-defend Mani but compared to Amber Hearst and Johnny Depp, Mani doesn't come off nearly as greedy or vindictive.
Also, I am not sure he was trying to hurt Mani with the demolition of the house. The house pre-dated her. Obviously, some bad shit happened in that house. Who is to say what it was. "Dead" and "infected" to me doesn't indicate adultry/cheating as much as loss and bad vibes. Of course, I would need to ask why it was included in the divorce papers? It could be as simple as the missing papers, pictures, videos and music videos that Prince removed from the house he was going to demolish and then Manuela being pissed because she could not find her stuff after the divorce was proceeding.

All excellent points. Mani was not the only woman who lived in that house. His son died in the hospital but Mayte went into early labor so maybe that is where it happened. There were miscarriages but who knows where they happened.
I don't know about drugs being used to deal with emotional pain. It could be. It could be just the physical pain. It could be both. Physical pain can make emotional pain seem even worse (hell, it is also often the cause of emotional pain.)

PaisleyPearl, I was thinking the same thing. My understanding is that there used to be a house next to the existing structure. I believe that it was this house where the playroom was. If memory serves me correctly, it was this house that he demolished near the end of his marriage to Mani. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above

Maybe Mayte's book will clear this up because I am real sure I read the baby died at home. Very sick baby with not much hope of survival, why stay in the dreadful hospital? I look forward to Mayte's book, I want to know of some balance of happy and sad in these folks lives. I support her 100 percent.

I missed the joke because i misread what you wrote.I thought you were asking about her being mentioned in the liner notes, not being a smartass about the length of my beautifully-thorough response to this thread.

I wonder why he didn't just sell the land when he demolished the house. Didn't prince have financial advisors and folks in charge of helping him pay his taxes on time so he doesn't incurr penalties while he was on the road. More careless with money than people realize.
Officially, 2005.

I wish I could say for certain since its such old news, but I think they were allowed to take the baby home and it died at home. His personal life was always complicated. Mani knew what she was doing and make no mistake she wasn't considering Mayte or her marriage to Prince. By her actions she is technically a home wrecker so I have no sympathy for her. Her own marriage to Prince ended in divorce which is typically how it goes. She got way more out of it than she deserved. He and mayte may have been on the outs but they were still married and who knows what might have happened if mani wasn't in the picture? Her whole involvement in the Jehovah's Witness thing was phoney and done only to get his attention. She has nothing to do with that religion now nor did she before she set her sights on Prince. She's a player. Prince could be so blind when it came to beautiful women. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN
