The worst year ever for Prince fans and yet I dread it ending. Today, Prince was with us THIS year, today I saw Prince's first ever performances in New Zealand THIS year. In two days, it will be LAST year. I know that's a bizarrely arbitrary feeling but it fills me with so much dread. We are about to enter the first year that Prince isn't here, the first year he doesn't record or release new music. I guess I'm far from accepting a loss many of us feel as personally as if it was a close relative. The turn of year feels like I'm being forced to leave him behind. I'm not ready. Just needed to share that with people who may get it. X If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Sorry, just read your thread, and I had an awful realization, too, and started a similar thread. I guess we were both thinking the same thing.
MODS: Please lock my other thread or merge my thread with this. Thanks. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

it's a tough pill to swallow DAMN, that's ROUGH. Sometimes I think (stupidly) skipping this last tour was a bit of a twisted blessing. If I'd JUST seen him, I'd be handling this much worse. But man, if I'd known it would be the last show, I would have gladly gone broke. There was always the next show... FUCK

Would have driven down there if I knew it was his last live per4mance "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Agree totally, 2016 started on such a high with Hitn Run Phase 2 and then the concerts in New Zealand, both of which were just unforgettable, only to be followed by his death 2 months later and a media beat up over Fetanyl or whatever it is called. . Add on all the other celebrity deaths (Particularly David Bowie and George Michael)and the underwhelming 4ever set, Real Groovy records charging $80 for a used copy of Graffiti Bridge and you have one stinker of a year. . Bring on 2017! Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

That's undoing a lot, but I'd give just about anything to have that dude here

His music made our life richer and made us who we r now. He will always b a part of our life even with him gone. It reminds me of the film Arrival with Amy Adams; made me think of Prince when I was watching it. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

I am so glad that I am not the only one feeling like I want to hold on to the year like if I do that he will somehow still be here. I know this is really silly but I have just watched one of those 2016 news round up shows and I had this wave hit me that this is real and he is not coming back. I know that after 8 months I should have worked that one out but it just keeps hitting me like a punch to the chest.

Yep, it was a constant feeling but now it's the occasional punch in the chest. I guess that's progress for us though. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Was just thinking this the other day. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter though. Time just IS, no matter how we measure it. It does sting though. You aren't alone in feeling this way. <3

I haven't really written much on the subject of Prince's passing as my year has been tainted by other experiences. Prince dying was a complete shock and I was of course saddened by the news, yet I didn't cry, grieve or mourn in any way for his passing. Prince, or more specifically, his music, has been and will continue to be, a large part of my life. I've been a fan for over 25 years, have all the official releases, many more bootlegs and attended about 30 live performances. In this respect, while some here have done way more than that, I've been far luckier than many others in my experiences of Prince and his music. RIP

Fucking hell. I'm so sorry. I can't relate to losing a parent but I can only imagine what it's like and to lose both so quickly is herendous. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Definitely feel the same - just thinking how ecstatic I was when he announced he was coming to AU/NZ at the beginning of THIS year.

Yes. I feel the very same way. I don't really want the year to end. It's another "letting go".

That was the first thing that made me well up this year when my friend in radio called to tell me about the press release. Finally, he was coming to town. Still can't believe how lucky we were that he came and brought THAT show to NZ. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Thanks lust. Dad had been a long time coming, so while not easy, it was not a shock and we were prepared. Mum was a complete shock though. The only silver lining with Mum was that it was so quick and she didn't have to suffer. RIP

You were very lucky to see that. We were going to get the shows in London but they were cancelled after the terror attack in Paris, so I didn't get a chance to see a piano show. I can only imagine that it would have been very special and as much as I'd like to see something released from that tour, I can only think that these sort of shows will lose an awful lot when the experience of actually being there is removed. RIP

I am so sorry for your loss of both parents like that. I feel your pain and thank you for your courage in sharing this information with us.

That type of show had been a long held dream of mine so actually had flights held to London (Mum lives there) and had multiple web pages loaded for tickets. It was what, 90 mins before they went on sale that it was pulled due to the practices of the ticket sellers and then Paris happened so it was canned. If rather have had to fork out for the trip and Baticlan didn't happen but couldn't believe my luck when Auckland was announced. Bring on 2017! Wtf?? Were they really? On vinyl? Better not be cd cause I used to see that in their sale bins for next to nothing all the time - Gold Experience too. Still pissed I didn't grab Rainbow Children on vinyl when they had it for $25 back in the day
