Exactly. The fan base needs to transition the definition of success. His life used to be about charts, $$$ in his wallet to a new normal based upon the sheer # of new fans introduced to his life's work, popularity on modern culture (films, books, etc...).

He can live on forever in the hearts and minds of a VERY large population but taking videos off of YOUTUBE is the exact opposite behavior needed right now.

I'm seriously thinking about printing it on card stock and framing it. I knew the moment I saw this note that it was professionally designed. And his handwriting is among the most beautiful and distinctive I have ever seen.

I think there needs to be enough to keep Prince's music accessible for generations to come, but not to the point that no one needs to buy DVDs and CDs or downloads. The biggest problem now is PAID for streaming!.

Artists do not make money from paid for streaming.

As paid for streaming grows, revenue from digital sales is down 20%.

This is a massive hit to artists.

If I was a label I would refuse my artists to be on streaming websites - however I may allow 20 second clips for streaming just like, for example, Amazon.

Prince's issue was always that people who weren't him were making money off his art, whether it be Warner Brothers, a bootleg label selling, or a file-sharing website (via adverts or paid subscriptions). This was pretty much the one thing he was consistent with over the years.

I just received an orgnote inviting me to join a bootleg site. I will not publicly shame that font here, (have sent them a note back) but: BLURGGHHH. Stop this nonsense. P. was right. I am happy to spend my money on something that will benefit the right people/artist (or in this case the estate). Have done so for the past 30-something years and I can't wait for new stuff to come out (music and/or visual). But I hope this @$$hattery stops.

Unless the bootleg site you were invited to SELLS bootlegs, what's your issue? If they SHARE bootlegs for free, then it's a good thing as it cuts into the profit of the bootleg sellers.

If you have watched or listened to anything on youtube that wasn't released then you may as well download a bootleg or two (or hundreds) as that is no different. Both are SHARING bootlegs with other fans.

I assure you it is absolutely possible to support everything the estate releases with your money while enjoying everything that they do not release but has leaked for free. I've been doing this for decades. I even purchased 4Ever even though I've had Moonbeam Levels for nearly 30 years and in the same quality for several years.

Trust me, if you have every release but have never listened to or watched a bootleg, you are missing out.

whatever the set-up, it was pretty bad

I stopped buying bootlegs when they TOTALLY disappeared from French wreckas stows after police raids in 96. I had maybe 50 at that point. I had just moved from the city I was in high skool where I had fellow Prince fans who were in touch with boots dealers, and the next thing I know u can't find them in stores no more. I managed to find one 97 show once on a trip to Paris in 97 or 98 and that's all after early 96. I would get free cassettes of T's releases from my old pals every once in a while when I'd meet them again and that's it. Then in 2004 I got an internet connection for good and didn't have to worry about it no more.
