Uptown is a bit expensive, but it can be quite good; but they seem to be running out of ideas for topics.

I used to buy every issue (at Tower records), but haven't bought one in about 1 1/2 yrs.

Two reasons, really... 1st -Prince had been on a roll of either disappointing fans or doing stupid stuff (Crystal Ball delay/retail, closing down fan websites, endless delays of projects, 1-800newfunk issues, etc, announcing releases that never materialised,) It took its toll, and I was no longer as excited about it all anymore.
2nd, it's kind of expensive. I think it was like $7.99 per issue, and it's REALLY thin. Too much live concert reports, not enough articles.

I don't subscribe to it,but if I see it in Tower Records,I usually pick it up.I really miss the way it used to be,back in the early 90s when Prince's career was more active. They had alot to talk about back then.

Essence

There's a sad feeling of it crawling to an end soon IMO. As a couple of you said they are running out of topics whilst the internet is the source for the latest news.

The lengthening gaps between issues speak volumes...

Nah. I could probably get equally interesting commentary on this board as I could from an issue of 'Uppity', errr' 'Uptown'.

Love UPTOWN. Nothing else compares. Even Controversy Mag didn't last this long.
