I used to think that the way he phrased things around the rhythm (like in Days of Wild) was really cool and unpredictable, much better than some of the "pop" rappers.

Undisputed (monneapolis mix) is the best 'rap' song he's done IMO, but it isn't really rap, but damn close.

his actual rap songs like 'The Flow' and the dreaded 'Jughead' etc suck BIG Balls!

Anxiety

when he lets it flow, it's hot - when he "tries" to rap, it's just silly. though i always thought "Sexy MF" sounded like Ice-T on helium.

He sounds good when he does the singing type rap, like in housequake and the crystal ball version of Days of wild, ut when he tries to straight out rap he sounds like a fool.

I would rather listen to him rap than Tony M.

Rythym speaking as in Irresistible Bitch or the Girls & Boys rap - fair enough.

When he tries to compete with rappers, he's wank.

Prince as a "rapper"

is about as good as

Ja Rule is a singer.

That said, Prince did distinguish himself with spoken lyric on "Irresistable Bitch" & "Sexy MF", to name a few of the few.

Matters what song. Gett Off is a classic rap as is Days Of Wild. Most of the Gold album is rap, and we all love that disk, right?

The outtake, Work That Fat is a great, funny rap, even though they do slow down P's voice to sound sinister, and more macho.lol.

My Name Is Prince is a great rap. Sexy MF is fair.

Damn, I like all of his raps. Can you believe that shit?

ill lol.

I was gonna start a thread on this.

IMO Prince can rap rather well (when I say rap I refer to his 'spoken word' style which I would class as a rap). Check out these ace tracks with Prince in a prominent rapping position...

18 & Over
Acknowledge me
Race
Now

...and many more. Contrary to popular opinion I think he does an excellent job of the style, but only when he makes it his own. I don't think using other people's voices as rappers (Scrap D, Tony M, whatever) suits Prince's tracks and they make them sound odd. However, even this judgment might have exceptions. Eve and Chuck D arguably do a great job on RUTJF.

Definitely, though, trying to emulate rap/hip hop instead of making it his own pays off poorly for Prince. Instead, making the style his own as he does on the above tracks proves that Prince can successfully integrate rap (or a rapping style) into his music.

Another successful story in the Prince chapter IMO!

"Irresistible Bitch" is the best example, because he's not trying to be a "rapper" per se, although he isn't singing either. It sounds natural.

As A rapper, I love Prince also. He can sing and rap and there really is no difference. Like in his song "Pope" He rapped. I never really listened to it until the other day then when i took the time it sounded pretty good...But really to me, Everything that Prince does is great to me smile
Peace and Be Wild!!
