"Violet The Organ Grinder" is one of my favorite 90s b-sides, and definitely one of the best songs on the "Gett Off" EP.

"I can deal with a sucker if he's in your mouth, but I can't deal with insincere."

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Saw it recently. In my opinion it hasn't stood the test if time. Dated and nonsensical

The other videos he filmed are still up. He does have some right to them as the filmmaker obviously.

I wish Robert Borm (Point of View Films) would put out some stuff he has locked away. He did a lot of the filming during D&P & prince. However, he was a victim of Prince's non-payment practices back then. He went bankrupt over all the filming Prince did at Paisley Park (I think it was him who referred to a lot of it as "home movies"), and not being paid. He was mentioned the Pioneer Press article Purple Drain in the 90s.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Actually a filmmaker signs a "work for hire" agreement and has NO rights on the footage in professional circumstances. If he didn't sign a work agreement, then he might have claim to rights. BUT, there's no way he would have worked on this during the Warners days and not have signed something.

Putting stuff up on your portfolio (your own website) is a gray area. But even there, you can be asked to cease abnd desist on stuff you shot depending on the contract you signed.

Well, there is a topic in dire need of its own thread. The "Gett Off" Cd single, or EP. Jesus, some of the sickest Prince music ever. My God! With Steve Hurley at the absolute peak of his powers to boot!

Agree. I hadn't long got into Prince back in 91 when I bought the Gett Off VHS and was blown away. It was like entering a whole new world..

.

There's an interesting recent interview with Scott McCullough on the Prince Podcast and he talks in depth about filming a lot videos around this time. Bits of Gangster Glam was shot in P's living room and he mentions the infamous mankini!

I love that. It was an aggressive time for Prince; purposeful, pointed, antagonistic. Isn't "Violet" the first time it made an appearance? It predates "My Name Is Prince". It wasn't in any of the Diamonds & Pearls Video Collection stuff, to my quick recall. I dug how he was coy with it sometimes, even sending Mayte out lip syncing "My Name Is Prince" on the tour, then he'd just show up on the riser in the back for the next song.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Honestly for me it was weird feeling that way. Prince for me has classics...yes, of course. But for me to actually think one of his songs and accompanying video come off as dated was strange. He kinda looks like a chipmunk in that video and the chained hat looks cheaply made. In fact...my thoughts were that the entire video looked cheaply made upon reviewing it recently. Sorry but true
