LC, it looks like he is wearing the Parade era sunglasses also in the photo below. Thank U 4 posting this photo; don't think that have seen it before now.

don't recall seeing any pictures of him wearing sunglasses during the Lovesexy era while performing on stage prior 2 the 1 below. If memory serves me correctly, he didn't wear sunglasses that much when performing except 4 during the Parade era and then in the late 2000s onward.

From what can tell by looking at probably over 1000+ photos of him, in terms of the clothes that he wore, Prince's usual fashion M.O. after the Purple Rain era was to have pretty distinct eras of fashion. For example, the clothes that he wore in the SOTT era, he wore only then; the clothes that he wore in the D&P era, he wore only then. While there may be some common elements in the clothing that he wore during adjacent eras, for example D&P era and Love Symbol era, he didn't seem to re-wear clothing from previous eras very often after 1984/1985.

specifically talk about clothes because don't know about the shoes or the jewelry. With the shoes, he appears to have worn the same style of heels 4 close to 30 years and just had this heel in dozens and dozens (possibly 100+) different colors and designs. So it would not surprise me 1 bit if he wore the same pair of heels across fashion eras. And would have to take a closer look at the jewelry before making a generalization.

thats an interesting topic and I thought the same as u b4 I started to digging pictures of all eras und in all details and since I'm a fashion freak ... ... actually he DID wear some elements during more than 1 era. for example that jacket (4 which I would give my left arm btw). the pic above is from lovesexy and I know that cause its my screenshot it was kiss in dortmund. exhibit b: the lace top underneath that jacket which he wore famously on the lovesexy tour but again on the nude tour (e.g. rock in rio and we had some wonderful pics with that lace top and white silk pants). the lovesexy belt with those huge pendants appeared somewhat later as necklace and those big mirrored heart/diamond etc. bracelets which the whole band had were elements on SOTT and lovesexy and so on. jewelleries accompanied him over decades or desappeared and appereared years later again like his huge PR loop earring, that came again in nps/rave era. I didn't observe his shades yet but probably these are the parade ones in that pic. so he changed the style but took some elements with him.

Edit: oh and don't let us forget the hip chain that was our pleasure over some eras

LC, I saw a photo of him wearing the same lace top (from the Dortmund show) at Rock in Rio 2 concert. So it looks like he did wear clothing across eras more often than I thought. And the blouse he wears during the ATWIAD "era" (although I don't know if it's even appropriate to call ATWIAD an era) is a continuation of the PR era.

Up until Purple Rain, his style evolved, but I could clearly see continuity in some of the clothing, especially the iconic purple coat that he wore during the 1999 and PR eras. From what I can tell, he wore this same purple coat that is in the photo below during the 1999 and PR eras. That's why I said that after Purple Rain, the eras looked to be more distinct. I can't think of a peice of clothing as iconic as the purple jacket that he wore across eras.
