Absolutely loved this REAL interview! And to think Prince was just down the road from me "sipping on his little expresso cup" in NOLA before the essence festival!! The part I love the most is how music WAS his life and the creativity NEVER stopped. It's adorable how he ALWAYS...no matter what time the band finished, or who he was with...watched a playback of the show and critiqued them relentlessly. Such the perfectionist

Wow, so cool! I'm listening to New Power Soul right now. One of my favorite albums of the moment. His voice is so smooth.

I'm not big on rap, but I remember always liking Doug E. Fresh's songs back in the day. He has a very distinctive voice and I knew it was him rapping on a few songs on the New Power Soul album without even realizing he was in NPG. I liked this interview. I loved how they seemed in awe of Prince. Smart people, as Prince was smart to choose Doug E. Fresh.

I can see why Prince liked him so much, a 'real' down to earth fella (willing to put up with the Prince way of doing things) who gave his all on stage and was versatile enough to fit in with Prince's meandering/jamming style of the period - capable of filling the 'gaps' with his freestyle vocalizations (a similar role in some ways to Tony M and Shelby J or even Wally Safford/Greg Brooks - the 'other' voice on stage - that Prince was often looking for to add colour to the proceedings.
