During the early-mid 90's, he was influenced by some of the hip hop music out there, especially what was being played in his Glam Slam clubs at the time. He always kept an ear to the streets, good, bad or indifferent. So, it's not really that unbelievable lol [Edited 1/3/17 10:01am]

I am not suprised but yeah Prince was resistant toward hip hop at first because the artists didn't play instruments very much. He respected later on.
I made peace with hip-hop from 1988 to present to the point I treated the form like entertainment as I first rejected hip hop for its sexism and homophobia and internal racism.
Yup I am fan of the Ghetto Boys and that Bushwick Bill cracked me up. [Edited 1/3/17 11:09am]

The Geto Boys do not represent all of black culture. I owned a few Geto Boys albums and I do not see Prince rapping Bushwick Bill verses. Sounds like some self promotion by Willie D.

Scarface from Geto Boys is one of the very few rappers that is also both a music producer AND a multi-instrumentalist. He plays keys and guitar. I have always felt there was a higher level of musicality in Geto Boys and solo Scarface music compared to a lot of hip-hop acts. Maybe Prince picked up on this. |

Prince loved collaborating with several hip hop artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Chuck D and Doug E. Fresh.
For those of you that may have missed it, here is video of Prince and the New Power Generation performing "I Wish U Heaven" with Chuck D during the Welcome to Australia tour. You can also see the rest of Public Enemy in the audience. Check it out: http://prince.org/msg/7/436601 [Edited 1/3/17 16:35pm]

Wow that is amazing. And also I haven't read Source or Vibe in years. Yeah you right Source was very picky who they wanted to give their 5 mics to.

yeah, Scarface is a legend. It would've been interesting if he and Prince had worked together. Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

Prince listened to a lot of rap music in the mid 90s, for example WuTangClan, Tupac and Busta Rhymes, and he also supported the local Hip Hop scene in Minneapolis financially (yes, the real Hip Hop scene and not just by giving local rappers like Scrap D a shot but also by supporting real Hip Hop events in the area). The thing with quotes from the past is that they stick forever. I mean, some former associates still mention that rap kind of scared Prince, and he didn´t really get it, which may be true, but he really changed his stance later on . So, I absolutely believe Willie D.
