Possible tributes coming up in 2017?

The Golden Globes, Jan 8th
The Grammys
THE OSCARS

Prince will surely get THE standalone Oscar memorial, being the biggest Oscar winner who left .

Not sure about a standalone Oscar memorial for Prince. He most likely will get that at the Grammys along with George Michael. For the Oscars, Prince won in a category that no longer exists. He'll definitely be in the montage though.

Prince was rhw biggest star who died last uear, as well as an Academy member and winner.

I'm betting on the big one, but he'd never be lost in the middle of a montage.

Plus, he'd be the popular choice on many levels.

Will be interesting to see who participates in the Grammy tribute, haven't heard anything yet, but should be one happening. I am sure he will at least be on a video montage at the Globes and the Oscars.

Don't forget about Bowie who was quite an accomplished actor and his son is pretty good director. So he's got a few ties to the Academy. At this point I don't care. I just can't wait for the vault material to come out and shut those folks up who claim that if he didn't release it, it's probably not any good. Now the rest of the world is gonna learn what we knew all these years. Our man was bad!

People forget that Bowie died in early January. He died before the Oscars or Grammys were broadcast.

Nah that will go to Gene Wilder. I'm sure Prince will be mentioned in memorandum at the Oscars and Golden Globes but I think the Grammys will be the only one to do a stand alone tribute. Based on what they did for Bowie I don't have high hopes it will be any good.

Yet another misleading thread title.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Apaprently, the Globes do not do an In Memoriam segment, because some people were questioning whether Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher would receive a tribute on Sunday night. As for the others: I honestly am glad the tributes are just about over. One thing: does Prince have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

No, he does not have a star. To me it's quite obvious he didn't want one since the celebrity is required to pay for the star themselves. It isn't really an honor if you have to buy it and pay to maintain it.

I believe the year Prince won his Song Score Oscar (1985) was the last time that category was awarded (regular Score and Original Song still get awards)

True. ALSO, the rules for the deceased are that they must be gone for five years, so those petitions going around are useless.
Frankly, I think those sidewalk stars are meaningless due to all the minor celebrities who pay for them.

Minnesota should do something BIG for him.
They even have a Mary Tyler Moore statue downtown.

Purple Rain won for "Best Original Song Score" in 1985. And that was the last year they had that category lol The award was presented from 1941 until 1984 (he collected it at the ceremony in March 1985) and that was it!
