Songs you can't listen to anymore because you played them too much

Anyone have a song you are burned out on?

I would think it would be Purple Rain but I never get tired of it.

Play in the Sunshine though...I've heard too many times.

How about you?

I guess 1999 is the only one I liked initially, but never need to hear again. Even when it comes on, it sounds fine, I just don't need it, & fully supported him retiring it once that year passed.

That's about it. I don't tire of his stuff - if I love it, I love it forever.
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

that's the thing with prince songs: I can't hear them too much. no way.

and that's really remarkable cause I'm the kind of person listening 2 one song in a loop 4 days. sometimes.
doin that with someone elses music - it's over.
when it comes 2 prince my love is 4ever.

the only love there is is the love we make heart

Most of the commercial tracks.

.

Listening to 4Ever, the hits sound very dated and cheesy.

.

But when you listen to Prince from 2010 to 2016 he shines likes a legend.

.

lol lol

Purple Rain.

I don't go looking for it and it's fine if I hear it organically, but after 4/21 it was played so much by so many and not always in a good way...If I hear it I only want to hear P do it live but otherwise I can do without it.

To say Prince's most popular and one of his most prolific periods is cheesy in hindsight makes me wonder why people are Prince fans at all.

In general, I'm tired of "When Doves Cry", "Controversy", "Alphabet St.", "Kiss", "Raspberry Beret". Some things like that. I've even muted when someone plays "Purple Rain", because I don't want to get tired of that one. Lately, I'm really tired of the first three records, only because I recently bought them on vinyl, and have just played them to death. Over-exposure.

There's a lot of older stuff that we hear in interviews or biographies that I'm just DONE with. Of course, then I hear him do something live, and I totally dig the live version. (Example: I do enjoy "Little Red Corvette", but the moody version he did a few years ago with the "SLOW DOWN" chant was just amazing.)

Isn't it what's great about being a Prince fan though - is that despite all the Top 40 hits, there is so much good material in between on an album. The first 20 years had very, very little filler material, so there's always something else to skip to or dig into.

What I don't listen at all is stuff from this decade or so. I couldn't care less about half of AOA, 99% of PE, HNR1, half of HNR2, chunks of MPLSound/Lotusflow3r. I still think you could take songs from Musicology, 3121, and Planet Earth and fill up one CD to make one really great album. So I'm not tired of that stuff, I just don't like it at all.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Initially I would've said Purple Rain. But then I looked at Arsenio Hall 1991. And wow. Those twirls with the guitar might be his best move in music history overall.

Purple Rain, for sure. It was never a favorite of mine, but after this year I'd be okay with never hearing it again.

Also, I was recently "rediscovering" Emacipation, and I burnt out on disc 2 pretty quick. It'll be a while before I play that one again.

If you will, so will I

Perhaps just Rasperry Beret, is a great song but it's neve been my favorite and 1999 and LRC but just because the sound of that album is awful, we need a remaster version right away.

1999. Although it's not because I've played it too often, it's more because I heard too often thru other channels at moments I wasn't in the mood for it.

Kiss...I've been tired of this song since I was like 10 lol it's never gone out of heavy rotation on a couple of our radio stations so hearing it in the grocery store or anywhere they play local radio is not uncommon.

Prince has been in the daily rotation for three decades now and this has never happened. I would say that Let's Go Crazy no longer gives me that magical feeling I felt when it first dropped, but I can still listen to it...I just can't seem to catch bullets with my teeth anymore when I hear it, which, as one might imagine, can be a painful lesson to learn.

Almost all of the hits I'm tired of. "Raspberry Beret", "U Got the Look", "Kiss", "Take Me With U"...definitely "Purple Rain". If I never hear that one again it'll be too soon. It's like "Satisfaction" or "Stairway to Heaven" - great but overplayed. Oddly, I can still listen to the entire 1999 album and always hear new stuff in it to this day
