During Tyka's AMA acceptance speech last night, she stated "984 songs and counting." On the other hand, Prince has stated he had "thousands" of songs written. Although I have no idea what the total number of songs is, Tyka's AMA comment about "984 songs and counting" intimates that she and her siblings plan to release previously unreleased songs in the future, likely found in the vault at PP.

I also wonder how many tracks are in raw, demo form. How many are just jams to get the music recorded for later work. How could we break the Vault down? Completed albums, completed tracks, demos jams, etc. I have no inner knowledge of the Vault or its contents. I can only imagine if there are 1,300 tracks (from the A-Z list), plus concert recordings (then I would assume soundchecks, after shows, parties), that is an overwhelming amount of material. Was all this recorded on tapes? I have read from various people here on the org, that tapes have to be baked (?). Is this process expensive? Not only is the Estate pressed to cover taxes due soon, but to preserve, catalogue the Vault would be a great financial undertaking. I am all for hearing the material, but my opinion, it should be released as is the day of Prince's passing. I do not want to hear others inputs on tracks to either complete them, embellish them and so forth. I am cool with listening to an uncompleted track by Prince.

also you have the concept that rehearsals and live recordings can became official studio versions eg. Purple Rain, Nothing Compares 2 U (Hits version), Databank (Prince version unreleased) etc etc. It will be intersesting to see if 'they' attempt to turn live tracks into 'studio' tracks or just release the live stuff as complete shows/rehearsals a la Hendrix or Miles Davis. We may never get to hear that live cut that Prince was planning to clean up and release on an album. Hopefully there is enough finished studio material to last for a while yet. Also will the studio version of Purple Rain ever see the light of day? (i'm sure there is one), or the early version of Baby I'm a Star, Feel U Up, the piano stuff he did to basically sketch out song ideas. there is so much more than just finished songs - we hope there is someone capable enough to make hard decisions about the demos/early versions/rehearsal/live stuff/re-recordings and updates to songs that were worked on from time to time (what version to release?). what about the prince versions of songs he gave to other acts (I personally would just like them released with the other vault stuff as unheard prince songs -- what about Do Yourself a Favor that is basically a cover version - would they releae that?

Sure there will be expensive 3 cd box sets but they have to put up something similar to NPGMC and just reslease as much as possible, everything from finished unreleased albums to different configurations of all his albums. Prince said he has several vaults so who knows how much music there actually is. I think around 2000 songs is a good eastimate of whats in the vault Welcome 2 The Dawn

I agree, but first, the Estate needs to get Prince more mainstream, particularly the younger generations. I think Prince 4Ever is a start at that attempt. Once Prince's music is more visible to a larger audience, then the 3 disc or live stuff can be released. Naturally, us die hards will by it. But the music cannot oversaturate the market. Demos would be good as second discs for remasters. After releasing remasters, a live cd/blu-ray concert could be released to capture that era. Someone mentioned an anthology release, which could capture the in between items. Want to get rid of Tidal and WB, created a Paisley Park with low membership fees, stream and download the rehearsals, outtakes, covers, so forth. Tie that site with discounts to the PP musuem for merchandise and tickets.

It's interesting to note that he gained his rights to his archival music, so the Estate can release anything and everything in the Vault if it so choses.
"But after savvy legal maneuvering, he owns the rights to all of his vast collections of hits, including archival music that Prince fans have been longing to hear for decades. Prince also gained control of the publishing rights to his compositions and has performance rights - which means he completely controls his own musical destiny."

I'm worried about the sound quality of the vault content. Do I want it? Of course. Is the material going to really spread like I feel it should. Not so hopeful.

I wonder if it's increased in size since then as it is looking pretty full.

It looked full in the video. Perhaps that explains Prince's comments on there is more than 1 vault? Very nice to see this video. Thanks.

Interesting, thanks for the information. I wonder how organized, if at all, the Vault was.
The additional vaults that were mentioned, I wonder were the locations were. It would seem a little troublesome to have multiple vaults in different locations, unless Prince had a "runner" to go to the vaults for tracks or items that Prince wanted to work on.

Having listened to the leaked "Larrabee Sessions" a strong case could be made for NOT releasing everything in the vault, some stuff deserves to remain banished... [Edited 1/5/17 15:14pm]

I agree with you in not releasing everything. I am sure there are a lot of unfinished tracks, perhaps monotonous rehearsals, etc that may no be of interest to the casual fan and possibly hardcore fans. Pure speculation. I have not heard the sessions you are referring to, but I wonder if Prince recorded everything to tinker with at a later time or just to catch the mood.
I would like to hear items in the Vault, I am very interested in the contents and hopefully, 1 day, a list of the contents will be available to satisfy my curiousity.

Took a tour of PP a couple of weeks ago. The guide showed us a hidden room behind a false wall in Prince's video editing room. She said it was discovered when they were setting up the museum and the blueprints didn't match the room.

So what do y'all think about the "NPG Masters" and song (track?) list in the official inventory filed with the court? Well $ is from MPLSound album, but some of the listed songs are new to me. Most intriguing sounding to me is "Kitchen, Surgery, FaceOff"!!!
What I don't know is how this fits into the vault. Is this everything that was in the vault?
