Life Can Be So Nice sent me overboard with this album. Even as a kid I just fell in love with the loud playfulness of the rtack. It was loud boombastic and unapologetic. not only that the flute gave it a touch of pop lighheartedness that was so sweet and innocent....but there was nothing innocent about this track at all down to the UNAPOLOGETIC random cut off at the end that left me bewildered. You're just left stunned at what just happened...and its not fair. *play it again*

Parade is unimpeachably brilliant. I can't even believe I'm reading people don't like "Kiss," one of the all time greatest singles ever released by anyone. Aboslutely nothing sounded like it on the radio. The whole album flows incredibly well. A masterpiece from start to finish.

Well put...and Kiss is perfect on Parade. I could'nt imagine that perfect album sounding any different.

Didn't Prince also take the bass out of Mazarati's version? I seem to recall their version having bass. While Mazariti are obviously crucial to the development of Kiss and the song as we know it, their version doesn't have the same bite as Prince's finished product. Prince's final touches - the guitar, the vocal, pushing the minimalism either further - make the song.

Of course. After all, it's Prince we're talking about.
But David Z.'s input is more important than Mazarati's, from my point of view.
They did a great job in terms of vocal harmonies, no doubt.

Why does it matter that the song was a collaboration? It's pure genius...a true Prince tribute to the brilliance of James Brown while maintaining that distinctly purple vibe.

As a song, I have the same (lack of) relation with Kiss as I have with U Got The Look on SOTT.

They are not bad, just very very radio produced and not interesting to me, and I often skip those two.

But Kiss can work when played at the right party etc.

I think it would have been cool if Kiss & Old Friends 4 Sale were released as a promo set for the Parade project(but not on the album) I heard Old Friends 4 Sale on a radio station late 85 set as a promo for the upcoming movie Under the Cherry Moon

You’re absolutely right.
If newbies are reading, — don’t U touch nuthin’ to the tracklist.

I would even add a 20 seconds blank file between Venus De Milo and Mountains.
Just to simulate the sides switch of the vynil.

Man, going to “Parade” and taking it out of its sleeve,
putting the needle, and waiting for the slammin’ drums to kick in,
whatever side… And being a teen in full rise of hormones,
“New Position” is educational in its title only.
The Swiss Knife Concept if you will.
Talk about P-u-s-s-y Control.
In 1986, man! "P-U-S-S-Y" is Prince’s reply to Tipper!
(cannot be "Tamborine", but no, too soon)

Kiss is incredible, it’s just I’ve listened to “Parade” one hundred thousand million times (and I’ll never get tired of it), but when you’ve spurt all of your brains spunk one hundred thousand million times more on the Elvis/Bowie induced “My (My) Love, will be your food” of the Extended Version, followed by the all-time-great Jill & Prince’s strip comic, you find Kiss (album version) a tad too naked, even in the last chorus smorgas(m)board. The Extended Version is the shit, man.

Parade is a record of excess.
Prince indulging in its Purple Rain money (he deserved it and how)
right before The Cross and The Crystal Ball made him shift, once more.

— Bonatoc’s unapologetic, that shameless, tighted-ass, chastity-belted double-dicked tongue son of a beach, “All My Dreams” plug: A, B, A, B, C, D.

That’s why Foefur’s montage is worth a listen (There’s a really, really good master of “All My Dreams” out there, collect’em all® and compare — with this one, it’s compression Nirvana: you perfectly hear Prince’s thirds and fifths over the Girls; when “Goodness will guide us if love is inside us” begins, it is going to make your spine shiver until the “Don’t (n)ever lose your Dreams” and its double bassed ascending scales and the last echoed "Yeah!".

Everyone likes this song.
When you tell’em it’s Prince, they’re all eyes wide and smiling.
Their first reaction? “Sounds like the Love Boat!” — to which I quickly reply “Precisely.”

Give it a full spin on a proper Hi-Fi system turned to 11.
I mean blast the damn thing.

It’s the construction of it all, it’s just a perfect building, you have to focus on it in one pass, it’s merciless. Angels float with a vengeance at the end, that introducing Snare on the four, just before the full choir, I don’t know if it’s scary or funny or burning magnesium, it’s just a miracle laid on tape.
Surrender. Don't breathe. Sing along.

What a mix, that’s on fucking brianwilsongeoffemericktheexodushasbegun levels.
AND IT WOULDN’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT THE REVOLUTION.

AMD is a Mozart/Skipper/W&L/Duke/Cage medley, girlie/boy/bubble-gum Pop at its most Candy Apple meets avant-garde Funk meets Handel on weed song, and I personally would choose it untouched as the next commercial single — “All My Dreams” appeals to anyone.

Prince The Comedian, taking comedy seriously — right on, Eric.

AND IT WOULDN’T BE THE SAME WITHOUT THE REVOLUTION, GET IT?
AS WELL, U BIG-FAT-PERVERT-SONOFASESAMESTREETSTUNTDOUBLE paulvanbeethoven OR WHATEVER, DON’T MAKE ME RAISE MY VOICE I HATE MY VOICE ALL CAPS (“WHITECAPS” à la rigueur [if need be]). biggrin

— EOF - Bonatoc’s unapologetic, shameless, tighted-ass, chastity-belted double-dicked tongue son of a beach, “All My Dreams” plug: 1, 2, 1, 2, 3 — Cough cough! Cough! …[aw-lawd]…

Thinking about it, Foefur’s tracklist is funny that way: “Anotherloverholenyohead” segues seamlessly after a domestic scene, because it is the perfect “Sorry I Yelled, Let’s Make Peace” Prince’s song.
Consider the movie (following is rare unseen cosmicdaylevelswetyopants original script excerpt):

PRINCE
Mary, I know I can be an asshole,
but c’m’on, admit I give the best kisses.

PRINCE (V.O.)
Except for when I got a Panaflex on me,
you Damn Hollywood!
I drool like I'm Droopy!

KRISTIN (V.O.)
Uh-oh. Here comes the Purple Saliva Maker.

KRISTIN
Oh quick, Christopher, let’s run!
I can’t wait to eat pancakes with Yak Milk every day
in some yet-to-be-subprimed suburbia at your side,
until the end of time!
Fuck my grand-mother's silver spoons!
Quick!
To the ChristopherBoatMobile!

Since it’s Prince, hey, it doesn’t quite come out that way, but when you know how his feelings function (if ever/only/youwishiwishtheywish), and you consider the movie sequence, “Anotherloverholenyohead” is Prince’s “Don't Quit Me” song par excellence.

The way it segues into Sometimes It Snows In April, SISIA sounds kinda like the death of a love,
rather than a person's.

And that's just one way to see it.

What an album, Ladies and Gentlemen. What an album.

"Life Can Be So Nice" could use more cowbell, though.

Amazing playlist. I'm actually going to copy it (but with Junk Music at the end). The problem is the difference in volume of the different tracks, I find that very annoying...

i've never liked kiss either. or at least not on parade it fucks up the whole vibe. it's all luscious and swirling orchestration and then here's this dense funk track with prince hiccupping for 3 minutes. he should have left it with mazarati.

I think he knew he needed a kick-ass single in order to promote a sophisticated album.

As a single, I loved it but had the time to play it to death before the album came out (in those days, the first single often acted as a trailer for the forthcoming album). And yes, it comes as kind of odd in the track sequencing. At the same time, New Position is also sparse and minimalistic, and so is SISIA. But it's the only song that has a real classic blues chord progression, and therefore it sounds a little out of context.
It's still an incredible song, but as everything played over and over, it doesn't do much for me anymore, I'd rather listen to the extended version, and its suffocating wall of sound, which is more reminescent of the whole UTCM vibe.

Since we're speaking of track sequencing, the Foefur's version is great: it has "Old Friends 4 Sale", and it ends, appropriately, with "All My Dreams". As much as I love SISIA, "All My Dreams" is the perfect fanfare closure as "Christopher Tracy's Parade" is the perfect fanfare opening.

i agree with u. 'mountians' or ' anotherloverholeinurhead' would have fallen flat as opening singles.
