who knew Prince growing up in Minneapolis

A friend of mine said Prince came to her house a few times as her brother was also in a band .She is 5 years younger than Prince and was about 11 or 12 when she saw him, and she thought he was weird.Did anyone else on the org go to school with Prince or knew him casually etc. I enjoy hearing about this time in his life....Peace and Love in the New Year

I live pretty close to new orleans, there's a record store there called "Peaches". one day when I was there one of the ladies found out pretty quickly I was a Prince fan. We started talking and told me how she grew up in MLPS and that she saw some of Prince's first shows.

Also, my boss's aunt went to high school with Prince, and was acquaintances with him in school.

A friend of mine knew one of his class mates. She told her that he was all about his music and therefore kind of a troublemaker in school.

He was a shy kid that got picked on. Just curious to know how he was a troublemaker.

There's one story by his music teacher that said he put a tack on her seat before class every day. She saw it but always managed to move it. One day she sat on it and howled and he laughed I think. I read it somewhere here. She also said she would have given anything to get inside his head but he was very quiet.

Brand new boogie without the hero.

Did you know him or know someone who knew him?

Was he shy?it seems he had girlfriends in high school, was part of a state winning hgh school basketball team and played guitar in a band ,took dance classes , an of course made his own music.

Can anyone describe what it was like to see his band play at school dances or at other functions ?

I didn't know him, but from what I've read by people that did it indicated he was shy. You can be shy and still be comfortable around close friends. He obviously wasn't shy when he played music. He said himself that he was picked on.

Yes, that is what I have read..Iwas very shy in school and I felt it crippled me with regards to joining school teams etc... I feel Prince must have had an inner confidence despite his shyness and unconventional upbringing...This amazes me and I think that is why this part of his life intrigues me

Oh I agree, especially being as small as he was playing basketball. I think it was Dez that said when he was with friends you couldn't shut him up. But get him in an uncomfortable situation with strangers and he was painfully shy. I'm an introvert so I can relate somewhat.
