I didn't like It much at first either... It takes some time getting used to It... He used to play It live as part of Thieves In the Temple during the Diamonds & Pearls Tour. [Edited 12/15/16 12:34pm]

"Cousin It is a fictional character in the Addams Family series. A short being whose entire body is shrouded by long hair, the unnamed character was mostly seen in the background." Baby, you're a star.

lol - I adore Prince. Just read back through the responses on this thread if you are ever in doubt of his sense of humor. There is just no easy way to talk about "It" without it sounding really whacked. "I didn't like It much at first either...It takes some time getting used to It." "I remember at first I did not like it", "Sounds like Prince was in love with "It"". As I'm reading these, I keep thinking "what exactly is it that everyone didn't like at first but now love it and Prince was in love with it???" lol

I don't see any resemblance at all, please make your case. This song it's a psycho-sexual song, sounds like a scary movie song.

He reused the song for When Doves Cry on the Lovesexy tour. He was with Susannah at the time.

. I believe you meant the Hit-and-Run performances and Parade Tour (1986). It is a very simple drum pattern. I believe the 1986 live performances of WDC are using Linn, whereas 'It' is using a heavily processed Linn sample on the CMI Fairlight, or a modified Fairlight stock library sound. Some of these same drum programming sounds are also used in 'Baby Go Go' (demo), 'Telepathy', the 1986 semi-live take of 'We Can Funk'. .

He wrote the song before he knew Cat. It was May 1986, he met Cat December 1986

I am in love with this song too. One of those slow burn Prince songs that sinks in and doesn't let go.

To me, this is a slightly glistened, with 1986's digital and sampler gear, retreading over the very same territory as 1982's 'Let's Pretend We're Married'. It is monotonous, overlong, instrumental, barebones, drum pattern and chimes, and deeply psychosexual, with a similar breakdown section. I still love 'It'. 'Baby Go Go' seems to be its sonic and spiritual less beloved sibling, a b-side for 'It' in an alternate Prince universe. .

The vocal delivery on 'on the phone. . . ', 'on the beach. . . ', etc., vs the more impassioned 'it feels so good it must be a crime. . .', and the layered build up of the chorus, have the absolute loosest structural similarities to 'It', but too remote to support a plausible reference point for the arrangement or production on 'Remember the Time'. .
