Personally i don't care too much for jam sessions & rehersals, just the outtakes and some alternate versions. Not all the live material just some, the most important ones.

Cool.

I really want to hear some of the Jam sessions and rehearsals. I'm interested in how Prince and the various bands worked out songs. Plus it's fun hearing their interactions.

"The Most Important" live shows are down to the listener? If he was in your town you want those shows right?

Some songs were rare live... so those shows are important to some. Other times it can be a fairly un-noteworthy set, but because Prince is into it, it becomes a great show. Some tours have multiple shows that are worth hearing.

I really don't know what I'd do with vinyls except use them as frisbees, neither with CD's or DVD's except use them as beverage coasters, and I don't want my money wasted on t-shirts and other gadget shit like that: I'm not 16 anymore to wear Prince t-shirts and put Prince posters in my bedroom

Well god damn!! lol

I hate to say it but i 100% agree with you.
I dont want books, posters, shirts, vinyls.

I know others do and that ok.
But for me personaly im too old for that stuff. i just want the music, and maybe videos. foodnow
CDs and dvds are a bit outdated, but id still like hardcopys especialy if they are limited

Im down for lossless digital downloads, cd, dvd, bluray

Ohh deffinitly im down for 10 /18 cd box sets lol

Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

Do u really want all his unreleased material come out at once, really? i mean all the material in a boxset, and then what?

Then you listen to it. smile

But seriously, that's why I'd suggest an iTunes type online service where you can preview each song before buying them. Then you only get the songs you want. If it's one thing I've learned from this site, it's that Prince's fans are very diverse. Some of us like his rock music, some of us like his funk stuff etc. We all have our own opinions on what type of Prince song we like. So rather than box sets of music you may not like just to get a handful of songs you're interested in, a download service lets you buy just the stuff you want.

There was a documentary ("Hunting for Prince's vault" I think it was called) where Sonny T was asked if everything from the vault should be released. His answer: No! Why not? Because you'd be sitting there for ten years!

Well, i will live forever so i got time. Sorry for you guys, the clock is ticking... lol

Ahhh... I see... You're one of the ancient Mayans! The clock ended in 2012 and nowyou're ready for another 5200 years!

Again people talk about the vault. I don't think his released stuff has even been digested properly. It needs to be reassessed. And again nasty but without prince that would be far easier

I so agree with this....

There is so much that has never been given enough time to be absorbed and digested...

Even as a long time fam..Im still learing to appreciate some of his lesser known music...It takes immerison and time...yes...It almost needs to be drip fed in order to be properly assimilated and digested....

Now that graceland is helping out at paisley, they should do what they are doing for the elvis music legacy and their FTD records.
They've released 7 cd's each year since 1999. These include 4 types of series:
- remastered original albums as a double disc with lots of outtakes
- several concerts from each of the many tours he did (only audio because they didn't film that much back then, what a shame). With Prince they can do audio and d dvd together
- vinyl releases with original album and outtakes
- books with lots of photo's from a specific area or tour with an extra cd from that area or tour

These are meant for die hard fans only and not for sale in general stores but only via fanclubs or online.

This can be the strategy for prince also. Elvis had a career of 23 years and released 3 albums a year. The fan collection has over 150 albums by now. Prince has a career of 38 years and released over 40 albums in that time but has many more outtakes than Elvis. So we could get about the same amount of releases as Elvis. I'm a big fan of both so these strategy could work just fine for me.

This came to mind and I thought I would share my thoughts here. I think it would be great for the Estate of PRN to release a comprehensive book of lyrics to his songs. The songs would be the ones that were released. Perhaps the first volume could be of work that was released prior to his death, so everything from For You to HNR2. This way, there could be a defined start and end point. I would love to have an official reference books of his lyrics instead of having to rely on websites for lyrics to some of his songs.

It should be available in as many formats as possible. Bob Dylan's Cutting Edge (studio recordings 1965-66) is a good example: a double CD for the casual fan, a 6 CD set for the diehard and an 18 CD set for the completist. Those box sets usually gather some media attention and remind everybody how great these artists are/were.

Exactly this!!!

Agreed! Back in November I purchased the massive Pink Floyd Early Years '65-'72 boxed set. 27 discs! This is in addition to the remastered albums and boxed sets they released back in 2011. Still going through it all and still discovering new things. Boxed sets like these (when done properly) and absolutely worth the price for all the new content and amazing stuff they can offer.

.

I seriously hope the estate releases everything Prince has to offer, musically and visually. Even the upcoming 2-disc PR remaster is only partially of interest to me. The real value comes from discovering new things we never knew existed.
