Prince/Beyonce Today Show Interview (Question not a video) Random surfing, definitely not looking for bootlegs. I came accross this from a WuTang forum:

The Today Show brought Prince and Beyonce together for an interview in Prince's home; just a Day in the life type of thing, and they are talking to one another and Beyonce says "blah, blah blah something airheaded as a musician, I..." and Prince cuts her off and asks "What did you say?" So she repeats herself, and prince asks her to follow him to the piano. He sits down and plays a chord progression, and then turns to Beyonce and asks "What did I just play?" and she says "I don't know." Prince asks "Can you tell me anything about what I just played?" and Beyonce says no. And Prince says "You sing pretty, you've got a pretty and powerful voices and you dance well. But until you can tell me SOMETHING, ANYTHING about what I just played, don't call yourself a musician."
I've never heard of P & B doing a today show interview together. I've also never heard this story before... I'm assuming it's bollocks but does anyone know?

Sounds like Prince - and if he said it, he was right.
He spoke differently about her in the press though. Maybe she learned after that because he said he was impressed with he knowledge of scales and chords or something like that, even getting really specific about more complicated chords. |

I've never heard of that story either, and I'm not sure Prince would tell Beyonce "Don't call yourself a musician."(Lol), but I did find a link to a video on "That video site" where P talks for a minute about Beyonce, the scales and chords that she knew, and how she would be an even better musician when she really learns to play the piano well...

Never heard of this. Seems fake. There was an interview he did with (the now defunct) CNNfn in 2004 where he talked about Beyoncé, how he showed her some chords on the piano, was impressed she knew different scales and told her if she learned to play the piano the sky was the limit because she's so talented. Paisley Park is in your heart

i remember a today show interview where he mentioned how he taught beyonce scales but if it was taped, they didn't show it at the time. the people on our org talked shit about him at the time for being bigheaded but he was right. Technically, a vocalist can call themself a musician, they can, but as a musician myself, i usually do not take vocalists only that seriously. those people, the kinds who sing at karaoke or whatever, no matter how good, they just are in it for superficial reasons, it takes some real interest to spend years and hours working at an instrument, the divas don't care nothing about that. thats the business though, talent, even singing talent really isn't that important. |
