I've been a fan of George Michael, since Wham. And I still like him.

Prince is good but c'mon, George Michael is in a different league. . GM may not release three albums a year but his writing and production is of pure quality. . GM has been very open and honest about the time when Prince rang him to get support for his 'Slave' campaign. To quote GM, he told Prince to "f**k Off". . GM has always stood up to other stars as he doesn't subcribe to celebrity. He once slapped down Madonna once for being rube to a studio runner at Sarm West Studios. .

Dude had a right to his opinion like anybody else. He did not have to be in love with everyone and this was said in a private conversation.

Me too. George is fantastic and if I'm being honest I still listen to his Wham stuff We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams. . .

of all the things in that great article to make a thread about, this is what you came up with?

what is the source for this? i"d like to see it. People don't remember now but George Michael was really dissed by critics and had been called a prince copycat. I think Rolling Stone called his "i want your sex" a Prince copy and also Michael a "flaccid talent". I always thought he was a great pop songwriter/arranger if not musician. His vocals really took off in the 90's. In the eighties I think his voice wasn't quite there yet. He became a truly fine vocalist.
Also, anyone know why GM told Prince to "fuck off"?

"Peace to George Michael." You forget that. All you others say Hell Yea!!

as an artist george ain't in Prince's league, not too many people are. as a vocalist and a pop songwriter, he could be better.

Go watch him sing somebody

Well well, Prince speaks his mind. I agree with him. Though GMichael did fall asleep at the wheel at Hyde Park conrer, that's pretty fucking cool, unless you were in the cab behind the stoned arse.

George and Prince thought very highly of one another. They became friends over their battles with the record companies. Actually it was thanks to George that I met Prince and George was also in the audience at P's aftershow that night. "Time is space spent with U"

In context it sounds like Prince would have said that about whoever the guy was leaving to work with. Prince: [insert name here] ain't shit.

Pretty sure it wasn't "fuck off" up yours, offensive thing, it was a "fuck off, no way will you win against them, you're wasting your time"

--In all the months Prince has been gone has anyone said "That Prince was good but GM was better" He is not even mentioned as a contemporary. Say what you want Prince got of the deal and continued on George was sued and lost and Sony ruined him. [Edited 12/9/16 17:18pm]

people, his own fans here, talk so much shit about Prince but compare the dude against george michale and michael jackson, you can't, he was in a league of his own, ten times more prolific. while mj was being dragged to court (i really do believe that had to hurt his creativity) and gm was whipping it out in mens bathrooms, prince was working, he never let anything stop him, his dryest spell was what? 2010-2014, that's almost normal for the other guys and then he came back with three albums in the year and a half after that, with us not even having a clue to how close he was to death or what he may have been dealing with. edit; four albums, i keep forgetting about plectrum electrum, prince roughly came out to an album a year so i guess his coming out with that many in a year and a half was just him keeping in habit with himself. That is the thing whatever was going on between 2010 - 2014 he was still working. Still recording music and still touring. Still running his business. How can you compare George to Prince.

Exactly. Prince was just talking smack because his publicist was leaving for someone else. I doubt he even meant it.

I another interview from the late 90's Prince said "GM is one of the greatest songwriter of our times" so IDK where this quote comes from but I believe the least u could do it to quote it in context so we can understand what lead Prince to say this if he indeed said it. There's nothing worst, in this digital age, than to quote someone out of context, u can virtually make people say the opposite of what they mean by doing so. I think I remember u're pretty young: please understand that the internet makes it much more easier for information to be decontextualized and misuinterpreted than any previous media. Seems like some people need to go going George Michael.Org. I agree with Prince on this and I'm sure he's said a lot of other people weren't shit also.

But it was the funniest thing I read all day so I'm going to agree with P on this one.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. He probably never said it. And if he did say it, it was clearly an off-handed comment. Not that I care if he was a GM fan or not, but don't assume 3rd hand reports are true.
