Ahmir is arabic and Prince was fasinated with arabia. I doubt she is making this up and I am not a Mayte fan by any means.

Again, there was nothing Arabic about ANCIENT Egypt. Prince was NOT fascinated with Arabia. He was fascinated with the Egypt of the Pharoahs, particularly Akhenaton.

How do you know he even knew that much. Even if he did when did that ever stop him from twisting things to suit his view or purpose.

I wouldn't assume Prince was aware of technical details like that. It could be a similar situation to when Kanye said he "keeps in 300, like the Romans".

Is there a reason why she suddenly announced that the child's name was Ahmir only after Prince passed?

That's what confuses me too. It's only being recently that the name Ahmir has been mentioned. For almost 20 years the child has been know as 'Boy Gregory'. Also, has anyone seen this interview supposidly conducted at Paisley Park on December 8th 2002? I've never seen it, only read about it somewhere.

Keep in mind that until Prince's death, the death of the child was never publicly acknowledged. That's most likely why Prince and Mayte didn't correct the reporting about the name.

Think back to the Oprah interview in November 1996. At the time, Prince didn't know how to handle the p.r. aspects of the death. He chose to refuse to discuss anything about it, including when Oprah breached her prior commitment that she wouldn't ask, by answering that everything was good with the baby (who had been dead for weeks). If Prince wasn't going to publicly acknowledge that the child was dead, there was no way he could correct the misreporting about the name. Further, the reporting about the name came in the context of tabloid stories describing a lot of intimate details of the whole experience - if he corrected the name, it would have been an implicit acknowledgement that those tabloid details were largely correct (which they were, but which he didn't want to acknowledge).

Now that Prince is dead, Mayte obviously doesn't feel as awkward about acknowledging and discussing the child's death (or her later miscarriage), as it seems that it was Prince who had the public hang up about the whole thing, not her. In other words, it's not that she was necessarily precluded over the years from discussing some of these aspects due to legal confidentiality restrictions (a confidentiality clause can't be enforced that would prevent you from describing whether your own child died), but more likely that she was just being respectful during Prince's life of his preference not to publicly discuss or acknowledge it (other than subtly through songs like Comeback).

This is what Prince had posted on one of his sites during the L4OA period. He has made many such references over the years to what he believed about Ancient Egypt. I pay close attention to these particular thoughts of his because I share his fascination of Ancient Egypt since I was around ten years old.

I also don't consider his POV as twisted.

Your problem is always that you make too many assumptions. Prince most certainly did know the details of many topics that he had a keen interest in. Are you people not aware of the books that he read? Some of them are even mentioned in the Paisley Park tour reports.

There have also been articles and interviews that have demonstrated that he was pretty well informed. He was no dummy or loon. That idea is just more Org mythology. disbelief

I made one statement saying that it's ridiculous to argue that a mother wouldn't know the name of her own child but some anonymous people on a messageboard would. That's not arguing. That's pointing out stupidity.

Stupidity is lying in plain sight, which is what you are doing yet again.

NO one said she did not know her child's name, the OP and others are asking WHEN and HOW the name came about.

I wasn't there to witness it sis.

I already said that it was posted on his website during the L4OA era as were about twenty other essays that I have from that site.

He also had many other essays posted in the NPGMC knowlege room and I read all of those too because I loved his outlook on life and agreed with about 90 percent of his worldview.

I hightly doubt that Prince would ever allow such extensive writings to be posted on his sites without his knowlege and consent and like I said, he has made other references to ancient Egypt and Akhennaten.

Are you wondering if Prince agreed that the baby's name was Ahmir? That maybe Mayte named the baby Ahmir after Prince died?

I don't personally find it odd that she wouldn't have spoken the baby's name to the press or anyone but close family. Prince's death easily changes that for me, since he was clearly the more private of the two of them. But I didn't watch that wives show thingy either, so I don't know much about Mayte.

I probably would have wanted my son's name on the birth and death certificates. But, then, it seems like P handled a lot of how things went between them, and I wouldn't have been so good with that. (No judgement here; it's just how I roll, especially when I'm pregnant.)

This has only just come out now, after Prince's passing. So it's been 20 years of press articles calling the baby 'Boy Gregory' I doubt that's going to get cleared up overnight, so I would expect articles and press to still refer to the previous documented name unless they're following things as closely as fans are.

.

I would guess either Mayte was gagged from speaking about it or simply didn't give this information about his name out of respect for Prince's privacy.

.

I still think we need to be respectful about this, Prince as a private person any way was always incredibly private about this, and I don't feel like it should be open season for gossip just because he's now gone. Mayte gave the baby's real name, so that's out there but whenever the frequency of topics about this goes up on the org it makes me feel more and more uncomfortable.

I don't believe she named the child until after Prince passed is what I'm saying. A couple of months back somebody went to the extreme to post a link to the public records and I didn't see the name there. She talked extensively about her lost children on the reality show and even went so far as to display Prince's clothing for the other exes to try on but never mentioned the name at that time.

If she did name the child recently I don't see why that would be a problem but for some reason people are miffed that I said it.

I dont understand why some think she would lie about her deceased child's name? Why would she change it from one name to another now? Maybe she didn't say his name out of respect for Prince while he was alive for whatever reason but now feels the freedom to speak about him.

Got it. She certainly has the right to name her child when and how she wants to and tell people whenever she feels like it. Her perogative entirely either way.

Since people are still confused about this.....

The child's name was Ahmir.

Mayte checked into the hospital under the assumed surname of Gregory to avoid press looking for "Garcia".

The child was male.

Hence, "Boy Gregory", Gregory being the noted surname.

Thanks for clearing that up. I've been confused for the longest

You better believe that when I had my 3 kids, I researched names and the meanings of those names, before I named them. If the mom says that's what the baby's name is, then that's what the name is. Nobody better than the parents know about their child's name.

For the umteenth time, no one said that isn't his name.

And btw, you were the one who first used the word arguing on this thread. the rest of us were simply discussing when the name was first mentioned. I do not now, nor have I ever had a problem with when the name came about. What I have a huge problem with is people trying to twist what I said.

The problem I have with you is that it was not an argument, so why would you use that word?

Again, the discussion, (not argument) was about WHEN and how the name came about. I don't think anything derogatory or argumentative was being said and do not understand why you would try to characterize it that way??
