Which Prince songs would you consider his best vocal
performances? I throw out the number 10...but i know its
gonna be difficult to choose just 10.

i'm trying to run all of his songs through my head...and
play a few to pick my choices...but so far its tough!

right now i'll throw out 2 that come to mind and do some
soulsearching while everybody complies there's.

DAMN U...so smooth a transition between the upper reaches
of his pretty falsetto down to the lower depths of bass...
on the bridge...what a seamless octave drop!
(the boy can sing!!!)

and BEAutiful Ones...well...everything he does in this tune
impresses me to no end. and when he screams...I WANT U..
baby baby...'
MANnnn...how come he didn't split his pants doing this?

these are my faves as far as prince's vocal abilities.

i excluded all the live stuff..but the ones i mentioned
in the earlier threads are outstanding examples of
superb singing.
(the LADDER is an underrated masterpeace.)

"Gotta broken heart again" live at le Zénith-Paris 2002 was an amazing vocal performance by Prince!

WOW. fascinating choices from everybody.
is 10 too low a number?

i gotta think about "solo' ...i don't play that one much
anymore.

i like emotional,passionate vocals but P has done some that
are subtle yet devastating.

tunes i thought about in this vein are:

silly game,dark,let's pretend we're married,No call me...
(frentic,frantic,and hot!) free (similar to THE Ladder)
condition of the heart,still waiting (particularly in the
last section of the song) when 2 are in love...

again P abilities as vocalist aren't talked about enough.

1. When Doves Cry (the production and the vocals fit so well together it is devastating, this is not exactly a vocal song and he talks through a lot of it but the moaning is perfect)
