Scandalous...first Prince song I have listened to all the way through in a while I have been in a little Prince denial the last few months. I have written a couple of blah posts lately but as far as listening to the music I just haven't been able to. I have heard snippets of songs on the radio and quickly turned it away. Instead of letting him live through the music it just reminds me that whatever time the song came from is over and that Prince ain't here no more. Still too sad and weird to comprehend. Except tonight I was driving home and the quiet storm show that comes on at 7 on the local R and B station put on Scandalous. Recognized it within a millisecond as most people on this site can with most Prince songs. Almost turned it away and then I started getting into it. I have always thought that Scandalous was sort of a second tier Adore, which is still in my all time Top 3, but something about the phrasing of the song really got to me. Prince sings every word so emphatically, word, space, word, word space. It is something that the Weeknd couldn't do, something that Bruno couldn't do. The falsetto is flawless. And this is not even a Top 25 or Top 50 Prince song to me. I listened to it all the way through and have been singing it all night, annoying my wife with falsetto from hell. Anyway not sure why I shared this, it is still going to be a struggle to listen to the next Prince song and the next. But it reminded me of why I listened to him in the first place and why his music has been the soundtrack of my life for the last three decades. All good things they say never last...

Just wanted to revisit this; Prince dying is still one of the weirdest things I have experienced. It's not even that I'm sad or angry, I guess I am both, but it is just so damn hard to listen to his music now. I haven't bought 4ever yet. I still can't read the Prince special edition magazines I have by my chair. There have been so many celebrities that have died this year but I guess so many celebrities die every year, you just notice more when they are one of your heroes. Hearing Scandalous which I always thought was in that good but not great category and listening to it all the way through, it's just odd and strange and sad to think of how many times you may have heard a particular song in a lifetime and how you know all the parts of the song, the breaks, where this instrument comes in, etc. I guess I am still not over it. But I know I am probably being a tad overdramatic too. All good things they say never last...
