What songs would you like to see on a post-Warner best of?

I thought this would be a fun topic. If the estate decided to do a best of Prince's non-Warner career, what would you want to see on it? How would you configure it? Single disc? Two disc? Do you graviate to a certain style of Prince or do you try to do a comprehenive overview? I know that a boxset of all the albums would be preferred but let's pretend that a best of release is accompanying that boxset.

With mine, I tried to stick to a single disc. My tracklist runs almost exactly 74 minutes. I think it flows pretty well and presents an interesting snapshot of Prince.

1) New World (Emancipation)
2) 3121 (3121)
3) Jam Of The Year (Emancipation)
4) What Do U Want Me To Do? (Musicology)
5) Tangerine: Extended Mix (Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic)
6) So Far So Pleased (Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic)
7) The Work Pt. 1 (The Rainbow Children)
8) In This Bed I Scream (Emancipation)
9) Family Name (The Rainbow Children)
10) S.S.T. (online single)
11) U're Gonna C Me (MPLSoUND)
12) Sticky Like Glue (20Ten)

13) The Holy River (Emancipation)
14) Last December (The Rainbow Children)
15) Welcome 2 The Dawn: Acoustic Version (The Truth)

What's yours?

In a few weeks, I'll tally up what songs everybody used. biggrin

i have done some studying of the singles released, and the most popular songs from the eras. the below tracklist is what i would have, comprised mainly of singles yes, but also includes songs that need releasing on CD and can act as "bonus content" because a casual fan would never have heard them before, such as ONA... or Turn Me Loose.

Disk 1)

Somebody's Somebody

The Holy River

Face Down

The Truth

Welcome 2 The Dawn

Old Friends 4 Sale

The Greatest Romance Ever Sold

The Work Pt. 1

One Nite Alone...

Supercute

The Daisy Chain

Empty Room (from C-NOTE)

Disk 2)

Musicology

Cinnamon Girl

Call My Name

Te Amo Corazon

Black Sweat

Fury

Guitar

Chelsea Rogers

The One U Wanna C

Somewhere Here On Earth

Turn Me Loose

Dreamer

Dance 4 Me

Laydown (Xtended)

Extraloveable

RnR Love Affair

And discussed before. There's always a curiosity (not hard to figure out) why these packages only have stuff up to 1993.

Your post should be titled "Songs on NPG Compilation?". Because that's where we're going with it. And there's a good deal of stuff to put on a couple of disks at most. '93 was really (almost) the middle of his whole career. Good division point in general.

I tried to make a list, but there's a lot to pilfer through. I'd hate to skip the mid 90s stuff because it was still in partnership with WB, but you could start in 1996 and move to 2016. And do you include stuff from sets like Crystal Ball? It's a lot to consider.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
