Watching Nothing Compares 2 U and at the end when the trumpet and sax come in Prince kind of bites his lip and it almost looks like he's getting a bit emotional. I love the beginning and ending of this version of the song. Some beautiful piano playing from Cassie and there's something about the horns at the end. I'm sure I'm in the minority but I think Sinead O'Connor's version of this song is way too cold. In fact I never have the urge to listen to it. But I'll listen to Prince and Shelby or the P&M version any day of the week.

Yes, I also thought I've rarely seen him so honestly emotional and truly vulnerable as on that song. (I felt he was trying to hide it.)

Then I noticed from other clips too that on that third night, he seems tired or something. His eyes look a bit crooked too. Maybe this was a sign of his getting older, or maybe he was just tired by the last night at his age. 3 nights in a row is a lot for anyone at 54 years old who doesn't sleep much.
And there might've been after-parties after each show (?). That's a lot of energy to put out.

It makes me wonder if he was actually aging like the rest of us humans (!!) but was very good at hiding it in those last few years with, as RS said in their last interview with him, "heavily retouched" photos that he would put out.

Of course I love Prince the MOST as this older man he grew into with all his eye wrinkles and humanness. I even think I saw a bald spot on the back of his head through his afro in another recent video.

I have always been most interested in him in his last years and thought he was most sexy and beautiful then, as an older man.
[Edited 12/14/16 5:28am]

What struck me most about the videos I've seen so far is the emotion you talk about and also how proud he seemed to of the band. Many times he would step back and let the horns be out front. They'd do something amazing and he'd smile and clap. I love seeing that. ๐Ÿ’œ

It would be very easy for me as a long-time, somewhat jaded Prince fan to approach any shows where Prince is merely the singer/dancer/band-leader as a lesser show. He's such a brilliant guitarist, bassist & keyboardist that any shows lacking him exhibiting those skills is never going to stand amongst my favorites.

That said, the first two shows where this is indeed the case are nonetheless great shows. If nothing else, those horns are TIGHT!! Also impressive is Cassandra on the keyboards.

I'm reminded of the similar "band-leader" shows from '86. Although I always find them a bit disappointing as well, there is no denying the funkiness or showmanship on display.

Most surprising here is how good F.U.N.K. is without Prince playing an instrument. And Something In The Water is simply sublime both nights.

For those that need Prince to pick up an instrument, I get it. If you gave up too soon you should go for Show 3, it'll be more to your liking.

Thanks to all those involved in the leaks and shares.

To the family/estate/Montreux Jazz Fest.....

work something out!! These AND the '09 shows need to come out ASAP!!

finally I managed to watch all 3 shows and first of all: I really enjoyed and loved it! headbang

since I'm not soooo much into jazz (yeah I know its a jazz festival and its not him playin only jazz on day 1 and 2 but the setting is different then one may be expecting and I agree with all those missing him on guitar or any other instrument) show 3 is my favorite. its prince at his best with some gorgeous guitar moments (e.g. compassion cool), an awesome setlist (pretty rocky) and a very princely outfit (including golden heals razz).

over all there are 3 top performances plus 1 aftershow in great quality and I cant understand those complaining about quality issues - not hd and not 16:9 - since it actually IS. wacky

the only love there is is the love we make heart

I'm wondering if it was the diamond drops as well... but all three women looked sad to me? I'm used to Hannah looking pretty happy and she read to me as almost distraught, especially at the beginning? Or, I'm just dramatic and projecting all over the place. Probably that.

These shows are fantastic, but please, people, STOP paying for them!!

I understand if you find them on pre-recorded silver DVDs, and can't help yourself.

I disagree, but I understand.

However, if you're paying for links and/or paying for DVDRs... WTF?!?!
STOP IT!!

These are unauthorized bootlegs that are being traded for FREE all over the internet.

A simple google search will lead you to digital files you can play on your devices and/or burn to disc, depending on your preference.

Simple rule:
If the estate releases them, PAY for them.
If bootleggers release them, download free copies.

in my not-so-humble opinion, of course... cool

I agree with you about how sexy he looked as an older man. He's been sexy his entire life, but something about how he carried himself and how humble he was also made him sexy. Seeing Prince age was a beautiful thing. You could tell he was enjoying life. He looked content and enjoyed every moment of what he was doing. He was and still is beautiful๐Ÿ’œ Aww he looked so cute rocking that Afro and seeing his little face wrinkles ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you, well I haven't purchased anything yet. I'm hoping the estate will start selling them soon because I feel like I'm missing out on this amazing performance. Show 1 was my favorite. I hated show 2. It seemed very flat and just boring compared to show 1. Show 3 was good but I don't think he captured anything close to the 2009 shows. There was something special with those shows. Show 3 was supposed to top it but it seemed like most of the guitar or at least 50 percent was Donna and her solos all sound the same to me. I was really expecting Prince to cut up on guitar but he really didn't. I still enjoyed it but Show 1 stole it for me. The energy, the band, the setlist was just awesome!! I am mostly a rock guy too so this was a pleasant surprise as I did not have high hopes for show 1 and 2 going in as I was eyeing show 3. Overall Prince went 4 for 5 at Montreax with my rankings below.

1. Show 2 2009

2. Show 1 2009

3. Show 1 2013

4. Show 3 2013

5. show 2 2013 - a real crapper.

Thank you to whoever leaked these. They are great shows overall and probably the best quality dvd shows we have on P including his official ones

The part that touches me the most is when Prince sang Breakdown. He was tearing up after the song finished, wiping tears from his face. Took him a minute to recover.

Strangely, I didn't cry over that or feel any authentic emotion. I waited for it because I read it here, but it didn't happen. I felt it was more of Prince the actor. Maybe it was just me.
