Prince 4Ever - Remastered? Radio edits?

Does anyone have 4ever yet? Are the songs remastered?

Also, on http://www.superdeluxeedition.com , there is a discussion about some of the radio edits not being on CD before. Can anyone confirm?

A detailed review would be wonderful. smile

FWIW, there are two discussions. Here are the threads:

Purchased mine this morning after a scavenger hunt at the local Best Buy here in Minneapolis. No display or anything...my Best Buy only ordered 3 copies! I was first and as I waited another guy came in looking. He said he was already to Target and they didn't have any out either! Weird but whatever!

The booklet is disappoining in that there are only a handful of pics in the entire package. Some new but most have been seen. Outtakes from the The Hits packages mostly.

Weird edit of Gett Off...unnecessary with Sexy MF right after it unedited???

My Name is Prince edited like crazy too but again Peach has not been edited. On iTunes it even has an "E" for explicit for Peach?

Even though we knew the track listing...sucks that there is no "Gold" songs or "Come" songs.

.

If you have read the threads then you have your answer.

.

It is all very clearly documented.

.

Otherwise, you could research your own CD archive for the answer - this is what I did when I posted the facts.

So, on Walmart's site, I see the CD, but then I see the usual "Edited" version. Does Walmart have both edited and unedited. I hate Walmart, but Target (a Minneapolis company) doesn't carry it here. Best Buy is always way too expensive, and FYE is out of the question (although they're based in my town). Thoughts?

Y'all should purchase the CD on amazon .I'm not sure if the songs are remastered but they sound like they have been remastered.
Maybe someone else can confirm this?

Went to Target, they didn't have it or a tag for it. Went to Best Buy, same thing. Best Buy's computer said they had 3 copies but the employee who spent 20 minutes looking for me couldn't find it anywhere. Bought it at Wal-Mart for $14.99. I assume it's not an "Edit" version because Sexy MF & Head are not censored.

It's not Remastered and Moonbeam Levels sounds the same as it did on Blast From The Past vol. 2.

It's on Target's site, but not in stores I've learned. You can check for in-store stuff on Best Buy's site before going.

Good to know about WalMart. That's a LOT of editing if WM still had that archaic policy in place with CDs (yet they'll sell violent or sexual movies - hypocrites).

For those wondering, if it was remastered they'd have said so.

I just got mine at a local best buy store. I was walking out disappointed that i didn't find it there and was on my way to target next. The sales associate near the exit asked me if I found everything ok and I said no, I was looking for the new Prince cd released today. He said, "there's a new prince cd out today?" The other guy working shrugged his shoulders then the first guy said "is this it?" and there was one copy in a cd display near the entrance to the store. Not very easy to spot or clearly marked at all and it was the only copy they had. I got it for $13.99 which didn't seem right but I didn't question it.

Mine was 13.99 too--though I don't know where that number came from, because it wasn't on the disc or anywhere else that I saw, just my receipt.

So, about Walmart--did anyone get one from Walmart--is it edited? I know language edits are terrible in principle, but I have my clean copy of Emancipation, so... maybe I'd get it. But if there's no difference, then I wouldn't want to spend the money.

No suprise about Target. I went there two days ago to pick up a jacket they were supposed to have in stock...and no one could locate the jackets anywhere. :eyeroll:

Just a note to folks about Target. Their app is very much on the money when looking for an item. If you use the Target app in the store (make sure your default store is set already), and search for something, once you tap on it, it will tell you exactly where and on what aisle the item is located. When I was at Target today, I noticed the only Prince items coming up in my app search were Very Best and Purple Rain. I knew I'd struck out. Their site (and the app) says it's in no store, but ordering it from them online will arrive by December 2.

That explains Tiff24's statement I guess. Target's usually up on music releases at first, but for whatever reason they're getting the release a week later.

Best buy has it for 13.99 each. It looks like they only let 3 be put out per store. Like they are saving it for Friday.

It is the live one from The Hits, but edited.

And, Moonbeam Levels is available as a single download from iTunes. They did not make it "Album Only" as I thought they would. Right now it's the most popular download from that package, according to the little bar graph next to each song. $1.29 download on iTunes.

It's also $1.29 download on Amazon.

I got it at Walmart, Sexy MF is not censored, Head is not censored, so, seems to be the same release.

I can't believe all you guys that are scavenging throughout your local Walmarts, Targets, and BestBuys...

Why not just order it from Amazon and have it delivered to your front door and save yourself the hassle?

I pre-ordered mine on Amazon and got it for $12.59 and delivered to my front door on Tuesday.

Thank you for your reply. Glad I will be able to buy it properly when it comes out over here. Woulda felt bad being nefarious for an official release!

Now though I'll just have to buy Moonbeam Levels and put the track list together with the songs I already own. May even throw on extended versions.

Different strokes. I like going to the store the day a new Prince CD comes out. Been doing it for over 30 years, just part of the experience... Besides, for me, all 3 stores are within a one mile radius. Not a big deal at all.

I'm kind of the same, I like buying them in person--besides, we had to go to that part of town anyway, so I went ahead and bought it from Best Buy. If I'm sure a release will be at Walmart (which is just blocks away), someone from my family goes almost every day for various stuff and can just pick it up (and no babble about "shop locally" or "Walmart kills small town downtowns"--I'm in Bentonville, Arkansas--our downtown square was the site of the original Walton store, and our Walmart is across the street from the Walmart home office. I'm supporting my local business).

I finally bought a copy today. It had some some songs I've never heard. I admit, I was all about Prince in the early 80s when I was in high school, but forgot about him once his music seemed to lose its magic after 1993. That was my perspective then, but not now. After Prince died, I rediscovered his music and found out about songs that have their own special magic. I purchased Prince 4ever and heard Moonbeam Levels for the first time, I remembered how much musicianship Prince possessed. I'm not a fan of the early cut-offs and the abbreviated edits, but it's good to have some of Prince's music in one collection. It was worth the $16.99 that I paid at Target.

As far as I know, the edited version of Take Me With U on 4Ever is the first time in digital format.
